Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort in Fujairah is a key sponsor of the inaugural Spinneys Coast to Coast Challenge on 14 November, which will commence in Mirdif and end at the east coast resort. More than 250 cyclists are expected to reach the resort as the last stop on a grueling, mountainous course that finishes in Le Méridien Al Aqah’s stunning beachside setting.

The 180km race has been planned to coincide with World Diabetes Day (WDD), the international campaign introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Le Méridien Al Aqah is pleased to support this event and to spread the message of health and wellbeing. We appreciate the effort of the cyclists, particularly along the mountainous and arduous roads, and we are proud to host them,” said Patrick Antaki, General Manager, Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort.

The east coast’s first five-star resort will greet the race winners and all participants with refreshments, first aid and entertainment. to cool off and relax after the several-hour bike ride from Dubai.

The resort’s participation in the event reflects its community involvement and its extensive corporate social responsibility programme. During Ramadan, Le Méridien Al Aqah hosted a charity iftar this week for more than 60 hard-working Fujairah municipality workers, and last month saw the resort host an event for 120 elderly people from around the Emirates, to mark the International Day of the Elderly. On 2 December, Le Méridien Al Aqah will host Al Aqah Funday to raised funds for the Angel Appeal for Seafarers support Boat and a Fujairah charity organization.

Participation in the race is open to members of the UAE Cycling Federation and members of the public can sign-up by emailing coast2coast@spinneys-dubai.com
