Top-notch nation-wide campaign aims at bettering the welfare of the UAE public says Minister of Health
The UAE Ministry of Health (MoH) and BinSina Pharmacy have joined forces to protect UAE nationals and residents from high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and obesity via a multi-phase, nationwide campaign. The MoH initiated this awareness campaign at a press conference held today in Dubai in an effort to strengthen the prevention measures amongst the general public through alerting people who are vulnerable to such diseases.
“The UAE Government health strategies have paid special attention to the welfare of its citizens and residents where comprehensive health programmes have been adopted to meet the needs of the society, compatible with global objectives of achieving health for all. The introduction of this campaign in association with BinSina Pharmacy represents a remarkable success," said H.E. Mr Hamid Mohamed Obeid Kattami, UAE Minister of Health, "This campaign, which encompasses educating the public to the dangers of high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and obesity as well as facilitating the required check ups, demonstrates the success that can be achieved through mobilizing the power of communities and volunteers to reach the public."
Ahmed Khayyat of BinSina Pharmacy said: “The UAE Ministry of Health has authorised BinSina Pharmacy to conduct these tests at its outlets spread all over the UAE. This shows the Ministry’s belief in our professional approach and customer service excellence."
H.E. Kattami added: “This programme represents a key fight against high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity through reducing the risk of acquiring them by educational and preventive campaigns aimed at enhancing awareness of such diseases amongst the UAE public."
Currently the UAE has a comprehensive, government-funded health service and a rapidly developing private health sector. This progress is clearly reflected in the positive changes in health statistics which indicate that the country has taken its place amongst the most developed countries.
Khayyat added: “This community outreach campaign will intensify the preventive health care concept all over the country. We are delighted to announce that this campaign is a world-class preventive initiative conducted jointly by MoH and our pharmacy chain to widen protection, health screening, public awareness, research and educational programmes. A crucial element of the campaign is to raise the level of awareness amongst UAE public on preventive health care as the key measure to fight blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity and make preventive treatment a way of life.
Preventive health and health promotion have been given a higher priority in the UAE, which is dominated by social diseases such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and obesity.
Khayyat added: “Health promotion involves a large number of initiatives in all parts of society in the fields of work and leisure. We will maximise the benefits of this campaign by reducing the cost of the four consolidated check ups of blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and obesity to only AED 15 in an effort to leave no one behind as far as preventive measures against these four diseases are concerned."
The new initiative implements a broad public health and disease prevention programme based on maintaining a clear focus on the risk factors and broaden the scope to also include preventive treatment to enhance the quality of life.
H.E. Minister Kattami concluded: “The new programme not only stresses the responsibility of the individual but also the role of society, by providing concrete preventive and health promoting activities. This initiative demonstrates a close cooperation between government authorities and the private sector, and is a focal point for the development and implementation of world class techniques for the prevention of disease and the promotion of health.
The UAE Ministry of Health succeeded in developing effective prevention and treatment methods as well as effective systems for the support of persons with the special risk of developing such diseases. The new initiative targets the UAE public, who are entitled to preventive health examinations by licensed and well-trained pharmacists at BinSina.
BinSina Pharmacy has volunteered to give health examinations, assistance and advice about cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes and obesity to all who visit its outlets. Khayyat added: “Recommended health-promoting behavior is so often rejected due to a lack of education; knowledge about good health should go hand-in-hand with adapting this behavior. Cost is also another factor affecting the likelihood of adopting healthy behavior. We have addressed the issue of cost by reducing it to a minimum, in order to encourage as many people as possible to conduct the examination in the UAE."
Khayyat concluded: “This campaign provides an ideal opportunity to our pharmacists to play a pivotal role in the progress of the UAE primarily healthcare services. We would like to thank Beurer, Omron and Braun for co-sponsoring this campaign and we highly appreciate their corporate social responsibility towards the UAE public."
