- Company to supply 92, 000 tons of cooling for the prestigious development
DC PRO Engineering, a leading electromechanical consultancy firm, has announced that it is in the advanced construction stage of the initial phase of the Dubai Motor City project, for which DC PRO designs and handles the construction management of state-of-the art district cooling plants and a chilled water underground piping network. The announcement was made by the company at the Cityscape Abu Dhabi event, held from May 13 to 16, 2008.
DC PRO was awarded the contract by M/s. EMICOOL, a leading district cooling service provider based in Dubai, to design and undertake the construction management and supervision of two district cooling plants having a total capacity of 92,000 TR (Tons of Refrigeration), with each plant room capable of generating 46,000 tons of refrigeration. In addition to this, DC PRO has been commissioned to manage the laying of the 50-km underground piping network comprising of a combination of pre-insulated CS piping for main pipelines loop and pre-insulated HDPE (High Density Poly Ethylene) for the villas distribution network. The first phase buildings and towers shall have 23 energy transfer stations (ETS) with a total capacity of 40,000 TR.
The entire project being executed in three separate phases is scheduled for completion in 2010.
George Berbari, CEO of DC PRO Engineering, said, “The successful partial implementation of the first phase of Motor City project is a significant milestone and a major fillip to our further efforts in realizing the project goals. This also takes us a step ahead in addressing the challenges of developing sustainable, energy-efficient and eco-friendly solutions for large–scale developments in the Emirates.”
“We are confident that our investments in cutting-edge technology, coupled with the expertise of our team of skilled professionals in providing engineering consultancy for district cooling systems, will sustain the momentum of this project and ensure its high-quality delivery on time,” said Warrick Gibbens, Projects Manager, DC PRO Engineering.
Dubai Motor City is a unique project that offers residents, employers, businesspeople and tourists an extensive array of sophistication, thrills, quality of life and possibilities. Motor City will have five components - Dubai Autodrome, Formula One Theme Park, the commercial area Business Park Motor City, and the residential area that includes UPTOWN Motor City and Green Community Motor City.
Drake & Scull, CAT & Coolrich are the three contractors that are closely working with DC PRO in the high-profile Dubai Motor City project. The construction activity of the plant rooms is being carried out by Drake & Scull and is halfway complete, while the installation of the piping network has been fully completed by CAT. Construction of the energy transfer stations, carried out by Coolrich, is in progress.
DC PRO Engineering a leading authority in District Energy services and Green Buildings MEP services in the Middle East and is a member of International District Energy Association (IDEA) and US Green Building council (USGBC).
District Cooling System is built on the concept of centralizing the production of thermal energy in the form of chilled water and then distributing the chilled water to a range of residential, commercial and government buildings through a network of underground pipes instead of using one local system for each building, thus creating both economic and environmental benefits. This results in reduced ambient noise and better temperature control for residents in their homes, while building owners or landlords can gain from reduced capital, operating and maintenance costs and substantial savings in electricity usage, since DCS uses only about 50 per cent of the energy required for conventional air-cooled chiller systems.
