  • Dubai contributes to building the World’s Largest Social Responsibility Initiative

Major organizations in Dubai participated in a special satellite session of the Global Summit on Social Responsibility in order to help build and contribute to one of the world’s largest social responsibility initiatives.

The central meeting of the Global Summit, held in Maryland, USA, attracted several organizations representing more than 287 million people and discussed how best to create a shared strategy to maximize corporate social responsibility (CSR) worldwide. To reinforce global commitment to the Summit and its initiatives, dozens of cities across the world – including Dubai – held satellite sessions in parallel with the US event.

“The goal of the Summit is to build a shared, profession-wide commitment, sense of purpose and collective ownership for the success of what can become the world’s largest social responsibility initiative,” said David Cooperrider, a member of the Global Summit Design Team whose work on creating positive social value through business has been cited by Kofi Annan and the Dalai Lama.

The sessions held at Dubai World Trade Centre specifically focused on the role of organizations around the Middle East and ways in which a positive social impact can be created both regionally and internationally. Recent initiatives such as Dubai Cares – one of the world’s largest charitable establishments devoted to improving primary education for children in developing countries – was one of the social programs examined as models for the future.

“As an organisation that prioritises our corporate responsibility towards our community, DWTC was honoured to have facilitated the Dubai session of the Global Summit,” said Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai World Trade Centre.

“Businesses around the world are increasingly considering the social impacts of their activities as seriously as the economic ones. We feel that it is imperative that we show our commitment to Dubai’s social initiatives by hosting forums such as the Global Summit,” he added.
