BP has wrapped up another successful season of its popular BP Young Adventurers youth development initiative, with over 550 GCC national students participating in the 2007/2008 season.
Developed by BP to help educate GCC teenagers and young adults, the programme has taken over 3000 youth on weekends of learning and adventure since its inception in 1999. This season 150 female and 250 male challengers participated from institutions such as the UAE’s Dubai Women’s College, Sharjah Women’s College, Fujeirah Women’s College, Dubai Civil Aviation and Abu Dhabi Petroleum Institute. Since 1999, there have been a total of 100 students who have taken part from Oman’s Sultan Qaboos School, Muscat Higher College of Technology and Middle East College who flew into the UAE to participate in the programme while 350 Kuwaiti students joined from private Kuwaiti schools and universities.
Steve Peacock, President, BP Middle East & South Asia commented: “The Young Adventurers programme provides a challenging but safe environment within which to develop and mentor future national leaders. We challenge their thinking, encourage teamwork, draw out their creativity and enhance their self confidence – all attributes essential in today’s dynamic world”.
BP Young Adventurers is an exclusive youth development programme, offering students from across the region a unique learning experience with a firm emphasis on community service. The initiative helps participating adventurers build their self-awareness, develop leadership skills, and instilling environmental awareness, all through a firm emphasis on community service.
