  • Seconds out! Round away!

Company directors, managers and consultants, more usually associated with hitting their computer keyboards will be trading punches with each other tonight (Friday 6 June) at Dubai’s third White Collar Fight Night.

In front of a sell-out black tie audience of more than 800 guests, 16 contestants – both men and women – will be put to the ultimate test, following the rigorous training they have undergone over the past eight weeks.

White Collar Fight Night will be a lavish affair in true Las Vegas style to simulate professional boxing conditions for the contenders. Organised by Dubai-based Transguard Group, the boxing bouts will be the culmination of a programme of entertainment held at the Habtoor Grand Hotel & Spa.

Waiting for the bell that starts their first round are competitors of varying ages, statures and from different walks of life, including two bouts for the female contestants.

The corporate competitors underwent intense training and received professional coaching. All bouts will be conducted under the rules of White Collar boxing which places priority on competitor safety and welfare.

A team of trainers and fitness experts took each competitor through a rigorous eight week training programme in preparation for their entry into the ring and their introduction to a real life experience of the noble art.

Each bout will consist of three two minute rounds under the supervision of a professional referee. There are no losers; anyone who trains and then competes in White Collar is considered a winner.

“All of the competitors have been very enthusiastic, concentrating on improving fitness through exercise and diet, as well as learning how to box, through supervised sparing sessions,” said Transguard Group event organiser, John Mamea-Wilson. “They are ready for the night, or should I say fight, of their lives.”

White Collar Boxing originated in the famous Gleasons Gym New York in 1988. The first contest was held between Dr Richard Novak, an attorney and veterinarian, and Dr David Lawrence, a PhD in English literature. After the contest the two went to dinner to celebrate the birth of a new sport.
