Heriot-Watt honours Qasim Zubair with prestigious sports award
|
Heriot-Watt University has awarded Qasim Zubair, captain of the Heriot-Watt cricket team and prize-winning student, with the university’s most prestigious sports recognition, the Blues Award. Qasim will be the first student from Heriot-Watt’s Dubai campus to be presented with this prominent award, during a ceremony held at the University’s main campus in Edinburgh. A second presentation will also take place during the University’s graduation award ceremony in Dubai later this year.
The Blues Awards are presented annually to students who are recognised as excelling in sports and demonstrate unparalleled passion and commitment to their chosen game, whilst achieving consistent and exceptional performance throughout the season.
“We are extremely proud of Qasim’s sporting achievements, both for the University and the UAE, and are delighted that he is the first student from the Dubai campus to be presented with the University’s Blues Award,” commented Ruth Moir, Head of Campus, Heriot-Watt University Dubai. “It is important that sporting excellence is recognised and that students are encouraged to demonstrate passion and dedication in their chosen sport.”
Qasim Zubair’s sporting career began when he joined Emirates Cricket Training Academy in 2000. Today, Qasim has represented the UAE on several occasions, including being selected for the UAE National team to play a two-day match against Pakistan. Qasim has established and captained the Heriot-Watt University cricket team and has led the University to compete successfully against other educational institutions in the region.
