- Business Lunch focuses on work upgrade and new projects
Highlighting the importance of statistical research and analysis in promoting business, Dubai World said that the Statistics Department, the Group’s consulting arm, will soon introduce new projects such as the E-Statistics Project to enhance its services.
At a business lunch organised recently by the Statistics Department, Mr. Farid Mohammed Ahmed, Secretary General of Dubai World, lauded the staff at the Department for their efforts in compiling accurate statistics and analyses, and for setting up a comprehensive database for the use of a wide range of business sectors in Dubai and the UAE.
He said that the Statistics Department is getting ready to introduce future projects related to its core functional area, particularly the Electronic Statistics Project, which has great significance as it is in line with the strategic e-Government policy envisioned by of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Mr. Farid Mohammed Ahmed noted that the importance of statistical analysis is growing by the day in tune with the rapid technological progress and the introduction of cutting edge programmes to keep pace with the changing economic situation.
“The aim of statistical studies in this regard is to help plan, make projections and predictions for private as well as public sector projects. Such studies are extremely important and helpful as they rely on accurate information and data,” he added.
Mr. Saeed AlQaizi, Statistics Department Director, Group Procurements, Contracts and General Administrative Director, said: “Dubai World constantly upgrades its functional methodology, particularly with respect to statistical work, as its portfolio includes some of the most important sectors of economy, such as ports, free zones, customs, commodities, and real estate. Statistics Department’s work, based on scientific methods, helps Dubai World in taking the right decision at the right time for its various projects. Apart from the Dubai World companies, the department provides the same benefits to all other business sectors, public or private, in order to formulate their future strategy.
“The department is adopting the latest electronic programmes and training its staff as part of its work upgrade. Statistics, as a science, has become an integral part of today’s economic development. All feasibility studies depend on statistical information. Statistical indices and indicators are among the most important tools in crucial economic areas like fixing of prices and wages and knowing the general trends in savings, investments and consumption.”
