Ivor Catto, currently a member of the Executive Board of Atkins, has been named as successor to Time Wade as chief executive of Hyder Consulting PLC.

He will take on the role on 1 December. Tim Wade, who had announced he would retire on 31 August, will stay on until that date.

Ivor Catto, who is 41, has been a member of the Executive Board of the W S Atkins Group for the last five years and been Group Managing Director of the Design & Engineering Solutions division, since its formation in April 2005. This division, which is Atkins’s largest, covers the architecture and design, water, nuclear, defence, oil and gas, aerospace and environment sectors. It has operations in the U.K., India, U.S. and Europe, several major projects in Africa, and work in Australia, Pakistan, UAE and China.

Under his leadership, the business has grown from 3,000 to 5,000 staff over the past three years and had revenues of £373.6m in the financial year to 31 March 2008.  Ivor joined Atkins in 2000, and previously held roles in Scottish Power plc and Babtie Group.

He holds a number of professional positions including his membership of the Industry Steering Panel for New Civil Engineer and the ICE Nuclear Panel and has particular interest in the areas of sustainability, energy and nuclear power. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

Commenting on the new appointment, Rod Stewart, Hyder Consulting’s Regional Managing Director for the Middle East, said: “Ivor’s proven track record in building a consultancy business to a significant international scale, and his depth of expertise in what will prove to be an important new business sector of energy, resources, and industry will help us enormously with our continuing regional policy of diversification. The new appointment will undoubtedly bring a new dimension to our Group and Regional strategy, and bring further momentum to the company’s growth and expansion. Our regional client base will undoubtedly benefit from this new phase in the companyCs development."

Ivor Catto commented: "ICm delighted to be joining Hyder Consulting. Hyder presents an exciting opportunity for me. It is a natural extension of my prior responsibilities and ICm keen to begin pursuing the broad range of opportunities in front of the company. With the capabilities and skills currently in place within Hyder Consulting, it is well placed to continue to build upon the companyCs success and there is a great team to do this."
