- Manya Tharun Walia Designs the ‘Next Big Thing’ in Fashion and Claims First Prize Worth AED 2000
The moment Dubai’s budding young fashion designers have been waiting for has arrived with the announcement of the 2008 Benetton Kool Kraft competition winner.
Eight year old Manya Tharun Walia, whose design was picked from hundreds of entries, won this year’s competition and AED 2000 to spend in a Benetton store.
“The aim of the Kool Kraft Competition is to encourage the creativity of kids, and give them the opportunity to have some fun designing the next ‘big thing’ in fashion,” said Ajai Kumar Dayal, General Manager – Retail and Marketing, Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group (ESAG), distributors for United Colors of Benetton in the UAE.
Children aged between seven and 14 entered the competition where they were tasked with designing an outfit for a boy and girl using a variety of materials including paint, pencil, crayon, glitter, ribbons, cloth, and fur.
“Manya displayed amazing creativity with her use of color, beads and sequins, her entry showed incredible attention to detail and stood out among the rest of the entries,” added Dayal.
Second prize went to 12 year old Mohammed Ali A. who went home with a gift voucher for AED 1250, and 13 year old Ariane Joyce Pabulayan won third place and a gift voucher for AED 750. Every child who entered will receive a certificate of participation.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Miada Mogahid Omer, 14 years, Aliff Zahed, 14 years, and Gemma Gardiner, 10 years, who all won gift vouchers to the value of AED 250.
“Once again, we are all amazed to see what the kids have come up with, their talent and imagination is incredible,” said Dayal.
All Kool Kraft entries will be on display at Benetton’s Mall of the Emirates store from 28 to 30 August.
