The Roads and Transport Authority announces another milestone which includes the completion of the viaduct installation for the Red Line of the Dubai Metro Project ahead of schedule.
The 46.5 km viaduct superstructure for the Red Line was officially completed with the last span on RPN 124 – 125 in Al Garhoud, opposite Al Bustan Rotana Hotel.
The Elevated section has 1,324 viaduct spans. Director of Rail Construction Projects; Mr. Adnan Al Hammadi said “The most significant consideration for the design of the Metro viaducts is the adaptability of the method of construction to suit the site conditions and constraints. The method of construction had to be established before proceeding with the design. The spans were erected using diverse methods depending on the nature of the site. Of the 1,324 segments, 1,239 spans were erected by pre-cast concrete segment method using launching girders and balanced cantilevers, and 85 spans were constructed by cast in-situ method. .”
The first viaduct superstructure was completed on Nov. 2006 in Al Quoz area,
"In all, 10 launching girders were brought in to work using the span–by-span erection method while the balanced cantilever method was used for about 5% of the project for special bridges spanning over 72m and above urban obstacles like interchanges, existing & future road projects" Mr. Adnan added.
The Roads and Transport Authority celebrated this milestone by congratulating key members of the Contractor and Consultant for completing the works in a ceremony held recently in Rotana Hotel .
