- Visit part of efforts to raise awareness on the harmful effects of smoking
Al Rabie Saudi Foods Co. Ltd., a leading producer of dairy products and juices in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the largest juice manufacturer in the Middle East, recently received a delegation from the Saudi Smoking Control Charitable Society to discuss and raise awareness on the harmful effects of smoking.
The visit complements Al Rabie’s commitment to encouraging community action in safeguarding personal health, particularly by promoting proper nutrition and urging smokers to quit their harmful habit. The Society presented an exhibition and brought a mobile medical clinic during the event.
“We thank the Saudi Smoking Control Charitable Society for this visit, which is one of several awareness programs provided by Al Rabie to its employees. This campaign aims to reveal and explain the dangers of smoking and how to overcome this deadly habit. It also allows us to emphasize the importance of hard work and team effort in developing our youth; the effectiveness of a scientific approach to education; and the important role of organizations such as the Society in community health and development,” said Monther Al Harthi, General Manager, Al Rabie Saudi Foods Co. Ltd.
“We should explore and consider all means to give hope to smokers who wish to be freed from their vice, especially as smoking is one of the major causes of heart, artery, and lung diseases,” added Al Harthi.
Studies indicate that a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, dairy products, and caffeine-free beverages such as water and fruit juice, is a significant catalyst in reducing the urge to smoke. In fact, doctors and researchers have long been advocating the intake of certain foods and beverages as components to either drastically reduce or stop smoking. The annual report of the Saudi Smoking Control Charitable Society shows that it accommodated 12,630 visitors in 2007, 8,108 or 64 per cent of who have since quit smoking.
“We constantly aim to provide high quality products that complement the highest standards of personal health and safety. This visit and our support for the Society affirm this mission. Smoking is a very harmful habit that causes numerous and unnecessary deaths; we hope that our contribution to the propagation of programs against smoking sends a positive message to the community,” concluded Al Harthi.
