The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) revealed that Traffic & Roads Agency has recently published a booklet on heat stress sustained by workers at work stations, as a result of the blazing sun in summer season.
 
 “RTA is always keen to maintain the safety & comfort of employees at all work sites where a number of strategic projects are being carried out such as new roads, bridges, underpasses and other public transport infrastructure” said Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency.
 
 “Traffic & Roads Agency embarked on a campaign to distribute thousands of copies of Heat Stress at Work Sites booklet. 500 copies have been distributed among workers in Arabian Ranches Interchange, 500 copies among workers in Al-Khor R/A, and 500 copies among workers in another site on Tuesday this week.
 
 “The booklet covers a number of aspects such as heat convulsions resulting from arduous physical efforts under blazing sun conditions associated with excessive sweating. This usually leads to dehydration and depletion of muscles salt; a matter which causes severe pains & cramps; particularly in the stomach, arms and feet. It also covers a number of other cases sustained by workers hot spots such as heat fatigue, sun stroke and heat coma resulting in loss of consciousness, rash and exhaustion. It also includes means & methods of treating all cases affected by heat stress.
 
The brochure is being prepared in three language; Arabic, English & Urdu. It will be translated into Chinese language as there are hundreds of Chinese workers at various RTA sites. As these workers are ignorant of both Arabic & English languages, it has been decided to prepare a Chinese version to enlighten them on the symptoms, treatment and prevention of heat stress.
