• The New Lord of the Ring

 There is a new lord of the ring – Nürburgring, that is! This 20.808km track, simply known as “The Ring” by motoring enthusiasts, a motorsport race track in Nürburg, Germany. Built in the 1920s, the Nürburgring is still in use and is widely considered the toughest, most dangerous and most demanding purpose-built race track in the world.
 
Manufacturers utilise this phenomenal track as a laboratory to assess their products, spending a lot of money in the process. Having never tested at the Nürburgring before, Chrysler LLC’s SRT engineers rented the track for four hours. The mission: to showcase the capability of the Dodge Viper SRT10® ACR and take a swipe at the record set earlier this year. After five laps, the record belonged to the Dodge Viper ACR as this iconic sports car bared its fangs and showed its speed and lithe handling.
 
The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10® ACR — short for American Club Racer — broke the street-legal production car record with a third-party witnessed time of 7 minutes, 22.1 seconds.
 
Tom Coronel, who has raced the Dodge Viper GTSR for the past two years in the 24-Hours of Nürburgring race team, was the man behind the wheel – his first experience at driving the Viper ACR and he skillfully steered the Viper ACR through ‘The Green Hell’ – as the course is often referred to – to break the record not once but twice!
 
The latest addition to Chrysler LLC''s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) family of performance vehicles, the 600-horsepower 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is a street-legal Viper engineered to dominate on the race track. Because it is street legal, die-hard Viper and track enthusiasts can drive their car to the race track, run it on the track at an incredible pace, and then drive it home. Among the modifications from the already capable Dodge Viper, the Dodge Viper ACR features an adjustable suspension, lightweight wheels, two piece brake rotors, street legal competition tyres, and aerodynamic improvements yielding 1,000 lbs. of downforce at 150 mph - unmatched performance for under $100,000 (specs and prices in the USA).
 
The previous record time for a street-legal production vehicle that was witnessed by a third party at the Nürburgring was 7 minutes, 34 seconds. On Aug. 18, the Dodge Viper ACR shattered that time by nearly 12 full seconds.
