Emirates Energy Award to host energy efficiency workshops for managers and technical professionals
|
Emirates Energy Awards, an initiative of Dubai Quality Group, has announced that it will host two workshops on energy efficiency in the Granada 1 meeting room of the Le Meridien Dubai Hotel on 13 October and from 14 to 16 October, respectively. This will be followed by a third workshop in the Millennium hotel in Sharjah from 16-18 October.
The first, a one day workshop, is aimed at providing managers and management teams with tools for improving the energy efficiency of their businesses and will provide an overview of energy saving initiatives that may be implemented at commercial and industrial facilities. Included in the presentation are case study results showing marked energy savings. The workshop correlates with the Energy Star rating system, which also relates directly to LEED building ratings.
A wide variety of topics will be discussed at the workshop, including the strategic determination of building upgrades, common causes of poor performance, integration of employee and staff assistance, lighting improvement, building improvement, load reduction, distribution of facilities and heating and cooling systems. Also to be covered are issues such as the need for management as it relates to green building, sustainable development, Energy Star, the economy, global warming and other issues; the establishment of energy management initiatives and other relevant topics.
Dr Mohammed Al Dulaimi, Awareness Programmes Coordinator, said of the workshop, “This seminar is intended to assist management terminals in all business sectors to identify and implement measures for reducing energy consumption. The aim was to increase awareness of the necessity for rationing energy and adopting national standards for conducting business on a far more energy efficient and environmentally friendly basis.”
The second workshop is a three-day training workshop for technical professionals and will cover a broad spectrum of topics related to the subject over the three day period.
The first day will cover how to conduct an energy audit, the purchasing of energy, energy expense analyses and energy system savings, as well as introducing a number of case studies on these topics. The second day will cover the topics of determining financial savings, establishing maintenance programmes, lighting opportunities and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) savings. The third and final day of the workshop will cover motor systems, boilers, thermal energy storage systems, waste heat recovery, sustainable energy savings and building envelope calculations, as well as looking at an energy audit case study.
All workshops will be led by Dr. Scott Dunning, Executive Director of the University of Maine Advanced Manufacturing Center. Dr. Dunning is a recognised expert on energy efficiency and is one of six key instructors for the Association of Energy Engineers providing training for Certified Energy Managers. Dr Dunning has led over 200 industrial assessments of various facilities throughout New England and has authored numerous papers and articles on industrial energy efficiency.
