Khan Murjan scoops major restaurant award

 Khan Murjan restaurant at Wafi has been named winner of Best MENA - the new Middle East and North African award - at the Time Out Dubai Restaurant Awards 2009.
 
This year, three categories were combined – best Lebanese, best Iranian and best North African – to create the new award. As a result, Khan Murjan Restaurant in the souk at Wafi was chosen as the winner against numerous worthy competitors.
 
“Khan Murjan has a huge menu of expertly cooked dishes from across the region, live entertainment and a charming setting with bags of atmosphere”, said the judges of the winning restaurant. “Choosing a winner was particularly tricky, but ultimately we settled on newcomer Khan Murjan. With live music and entertainment, we couldn’t be more charmed, and the space, designed to resemble the 14th-century Baghdad souk, has no shortage of atmosphere. But it’s the food that ultimately sold us. The menu is massive, and incorporates food from all over the Middle East and North Africa. Regardless of what we’ve ordered (and we’ve sampled a hefty percentage of the menu), we’ve never experienced a dish that is anything short of spectacular”.
 
Winning a Time Out Dubai award is no easy feat. The magazine’s team of food critics visit each restaurant in Dubai, dining anonymously and paying for every meal, in order to arrive at their conclusions. The judging process takes into account not just the quality of food, but presentation, service, ambience and value for money.
 
Dib Bader, General Manager for Khan Murjan, stated, “Khan Murjan restaurant is one of the exciting additions, which has re-established Wafi as a totally unique retail destination for both tourists and residents, following a period of major development across the site. These awards are particularly prestigious as they are 100% independent and to obtain recognition at the awards ceremony is to achieve something outstanding.  I am very pleased with the popularity of the restaurant and proud that in their first year of trading they have achieved this award as it recognises the many people across the site, whose combined efforts have enabled us to achieve this amazing recognition for Khan Murjan at Wafi”.
 
Khan Murjan offers 150 bazaar shops in a subterranean souk offering a wealth of works of art from artisans behind some of the Arab world’s most famous crafts; many of whom are happy to share their experiences with customers.
