Heriot-Watt University to showcase its unique offerings at GETEX 2009
|
Heriot-Watt University, the first university to open a campus at Dubai’s International Academic City, will participate in the upcoming GETEX 2009, the Middle East’s leading education fair. Prospective undergraduate and graduate students can visit the University’s stand (G300) from April 15 – 18 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Delivering programmes relevant to the needs of this rapidly changing region, Heriot-Watt’s Dubai campus has an academic portfolio focused on four broad subject areas: Engineering, Management, the Built Environment and Textiles and Design. Vocationally relevant education is a Heriot-Watt tradition and at this year’s GETEX the University will share with prospective students information on the broad range of high quality degree programmes available at the Dubai campus.
As well as providing information on the Dubai Campus’ established courses, academic staff will be on hand to discuss the University’s four newly launched degree programmes. These sought after courses will be offered at the Dubai campus from September 2009 and will include a BEng (Hons) Automotive Engineering, BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering, BA (Hons) Fashion Design, BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and Retailing
Professor Brian Smart, a Deputy Principal of the University and Executive Dean and Head of the Dubai Campus commented, “With an international reputation for science, business, engineering and design expertise, Heriot-Watt is the ideal foundation for internationally-focused students and executives seeking a top quality British education.
“By showcasing the University’s programmes and highlighting unique offerings, people visiting GETEX will be able to make the right decisions when planning their academic and professional careers.”
Another motivating reason to visit the Heriot-Watt stand will be to witness the student robotics competition, which will see the University’s engineering students battle it out to negotiate their robots around an obstacle course. Visitors to the stand will be asked to arrange the obstacles to see if they can defeat the robot.
The Fashion staff will be demonstrating design skills by showcasing the latest designs and trends, including the dressing of mini mannequins to create garments on the spot.
Heriot-Watt University was the first international university to open its doors in Dubai International Academic City in 2005, and is Scotland’s most international academic institution, with one third of its students on campus in Scotland being from outside of the UK, Many additional students are studying with institutional partners around the world for Heriot-Watt University degrees. The Dubai Campus is, however, the only foreign campus operated by the University, with the academic process being wholly owned and delivered by the University.
Heriot Watt’s Dubai Campus has grown from strength to strength over the past three years, and is expected to reach over 2,000 students as the University’s reputation grows in the Middle East region as the University of choice for high quality UK education.
