  • TAWTEEN ACHIEVES ANOTHER EMIRATISATION MILESTONE

Tawteen yesterday welcomed the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, to the graduation ceremony for the 121 students who completed its Career Guidance Counseling (CGC) programme. The programme was developed in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC) to provide students with invaluable insight into working in the private sector and help young Emirati’s consider their career options at a young age.

During the programme students were taught skills such as communication and leadership and got involved in all aspects of the working day, including planning and time management. The mixture of work experience and life skills classes was designed to help Emirati students make educated career choices when they graduate.

Khuloud Al Nuwais, Emirates Foundation Projects Director commented on the event: “Emirati students are becoming more aware of the opportunities available in the private sector. Projects such as these are vital to give them the insight into employment within the private sector and show them firsthand the skills they need to develop. And on the other hand allows private sector to contribute to the development and have access to young emirati talent.

On top of this, tawteen also works to ensure families are supportive of the initiative and the skills development it provides to their youth. We’re delighted that we are able to graduate over 121 students and we’re working to maintain the momentum in the schools”.

When developing a programme Tawteen partners with private sector organisations to ensure the key-learnings are in line with the reality of working in the private sector. Rolls-Royce, Mubadala and GEMS Education formed the corner stone of the CGC programme from a private sector perspective. The programme was also supported by a number of additional organsisations who enabled students to gain invaluable work experience. This included ADCO, Petroleum Institute, Shell, DLA Piper, Yahsat, Imperial College of Diabetes Centre, ADCB, Khalifa Fund, Al Hilal Bank, Al Ain Ahliah Insurance Company, Al Dhafra Insurance Company Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technology, Horizon Flight Academy, Paris Gallery, and the Bin Salem Group.

The students have come mainly from three schools, Al Mawaheb School which is located in the Abu Dhabi Island, Al Ruwad School in Bani Yas, and Al Dhama School in Al Ain.

Tawteen, which was established by the Emirates Foundation, aims to make a positive impact on academia, families, and students by raising their interest in and awareness of the opportunities in the private sector.
