RAK Hospital successfully performs its first knee replacement surgery

• The first of its kind surgery performed in a private hospital in Ras Al Khaimah

 
RAK Hospital, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility jointly set up by the Ras Al Khaimah Government and ETA Star Healthcare, has performed the first successful knee replacement surgery in the private sector in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The surgery was conducted on a 52 year old South African woman using advanced knee prosthesis. The surgery was performed by a team of highly-qualified doctors led by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Friedmann Herwig M.D from Austria.

The patient who underwent the surgery has experienced a wonderful recovery and a dramatic improvement in mobility,” he further added.
 
Joint Replacement is a surgical method in which the diseased and damaged parts of the joint are removed and replaced by an artificial joint or a prosthetic joint. The artificial joint parts are made of plastic or metal and function just like a normal, healthy joint. After a knee replacement surgery is completed successfully, joint and muscle movement is restored and the patient can freely enjoy most normal physical activities.
