Roads & Transport Authority joined hands with Dubai Civil Dep’t carried out a fire-fighting drill to enhance the security & safety procedures at Traffic & Roads Agency. The exercise was useful in ensuring the soundness of evacuation procedures and how to cope with fire incidence or emergent security issues in the building.

The rehearsal, which lasted 15 minutes starting at 09.00 am, aimed at ensuring the integrity of procedures to address the problem once happened. It will also eliminate employees & customers phobia associated with the sounding of fire alarm bells when an actual or emergency fire incidence takes place in the building. The experiment will be evaluated to identify points of strength and weakness in order to improve them to meet the requirements of safety and security sought by the RTA.

Nabeel Mohammed Saleh, Acting CEO of Roads Dep’t at RTA Traffic and Roads Agency, commented on the event and said: “The aim of this drill was to identify the readiness of the Agency employees to cope with contingency matters, and establish the effectiveness of the approved Agency plans, in addition to assessing the evacuation plans, alarm systems & the interaction between employees and customers, and evaluating the performance level of Emergency Teams members.

“The drill was remarkably successful; thanks to the response of employees of the Agency with the mock exercise, and it ensured RTA readiness to measure up to the approved standards of coping with emergencies. It also ensured the effective implementation of employee and building safety in a way to ensure high efficiency of all processes of Agency; ensuring safe and secure work environment for all employees of the Agency.

“Coping with any emergency warrants continuous reviewing, training, and education to combat the risks and enhance the ability to combat and cope with any emergency. Prior preparation for emergencies, particularly fire, is crucial for avoiding them and raising the knowledge of how to deal with the consequential damage. Therefore, we have planned and executed this drill which was all successful, thanks to the cooperation and support of Civil Defence, Police, and Ambulance bodies in Dubai, which was a live demonstration of training employees of the Agency on fire protection, evacuation, safety means and how to use fire-fighting & First Aid” added Nabeel.

It is note-worthy that the drill started at 09.00 am with the sounding of fire alarm bells indicating a mock fire incident in the premises of Traffic & Roads Agency at Umm Ramool, Rashidiya. Civil Denfence Fire fighting crews of immediately took to the scene accompanied by traffic & patrol policemen as well as ambulances and rescue vehicles which arrived at site within five minutes. The teams cordoned off the building and made a security belt around to keep peoples away from the spot and clear them to safe assembly points. Fire-fighting operations started and hypothetical casualties were cleared with the participation of rescue teams which provided the required medical assistance to them at site.
