  • Star Atrium to be adorned with silver and gold stars reflecting the spirit of Ramadan and raise funds for Dubai Cares

  • The Dubai Mall Ramadan Tent located along Waterfront Promenade overlooking The Dubai Fountain, Burj Dubai

  • The Dubai Mall’s trading hours during Ramadan: Sunday to Wednesday 10am to midnight; Thursday to Saturday 10am to 1am

During the Holy month of Ramadan, The Dubai Mall is concentrating on charity and education initiatives. The ‘Night Sky’ campaign, hosted in The Star Atrium is a charity initiative which will raise funds to support Dubai Cares, a UAE-based philanthropic establishment, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to improve children’s access to primary education in developing countries.

The Star Atrium will be replete with seven large stars and a moon-shaped crescent which can be sponsored by companies, and gold and silver stars will be available to shoppers for purchase with all proceeds directed towards supporting Dubai Cares’ Ramadan campaign. In addition to the charity initiative a traditional Ramadan tent will be in place along the Waterfront Promenade overlooking The Dubai Fountain.

Reminiscent of a ‘night sky’, the Star Atrium will be adorned with over 1,000 stars, reflecting the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid. A Silver Star can be sponsored for AED 60 and Gold Stars are AED 90 with each star reflecting a shopper’s contribution to Dubai Cares in support of their efforts to help children in developing countries gain access to primary education. For every star purchased in the Night Sky, the giver’s name will be posted on the wall coinciding with a star hung in the atrium. A Dubai Cares photography exhibition will also be located underneath the ‘Night Sky’ demonstrating the plight of children around the world and highlighting the educational programs that the charity is implementing in 20 countries.

Mr Nasser Rafi, Chief Executive Officer, Emaar Malls Group, said: “We have many activities and initiatives throughout the year at The Dubai Mall for our customers and retailers. Ramadan is a special time of reflection and giving, and so this Ramadan we wanted our activities to reflect a good cause and provide our shoppers with an opportunity to support Dubai Cares.”

He added: “The ‘Night Sky’ initiative fits well with the spirit of Ramadan as a time of charity and generosity. As the Star Atrium sparkles like a starry night during the Holy month, visitors will embrace the festivities with family and friends.”

The Dubai Mall will also be hosting a Ramadan Tent located on the waterfront promenade, near the amphitheatre and overlooking The Dubai Fountain. Accommodating up to 250 people, the Ramadan Tent will offer a traditional Sohour menu. Operating hours at The Dubai Mall’s Ramadan Tent will be from 8:30pm to 2am.

Another highlight at The Dubai Mall during Ramadan will be the Mont Blanc Calligraphy Exhibition, ‘Letters’, in association with UNICEF. The exhibition supports education programmes worldwide for International Day of Literacy which falls September 8 each year. A calligraphy exhibition supporting the region’s heritage and culture will be on display at the Grand Atrium from September 10 to October 3. In addition UNICEF will be hosting a calligraphy competition for children and students throughout Dubai.

The ‘Letters’ exhibition will showcase artwork from leading artists from the region including Hamza Bounoua, the award winning Algerian artist, Ahmed Mustafa, the Egyptian Islamic Calligrapher, internationally renowned Ali Omar Ermes and Tunisian award winning visual artist Nja Mahdaoui, to name a few.

Visitors to The Dubai Mall can also enjoy Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, the Olympic sized Dubai Ice Rink, Reel Cinemas, SEGA Republic and over 900 shopping options now open - several of them having opened their Middle East flagship stores in the mall including the recent edition of anchor department store Galeries Lafayette. KidZania® will open shortly.
