• To Support UNICEF’s Work With Children Living on the Streets In Egypt

 
As part of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Le Méridien Abu Dhabi is hosting a unique charity bazaar for the 2009 Road to Awareness to raise money to support UNICEF’s work with street children living and working on the streets in Egypt.
 
The bazaar will be held at Istanbul hall in the center of Le Méridien Village terrace. A total of 20 artists exhibiting paintings, photographs, unique jewelry designs, traditional clothes, and home accessories are displaying their work from all over the UAE and are very excited to be part of this charity event. The bazaar will start from September 1^st to 5^th, 2009 from 6pm till midnight.
 
The main objective of the Road to Awareness is to support UNICEF’s work by raising the $150,000 from all Starwood properties to provide funding for the social, medical and psychosocial support needed for 2,000 children living and working on the streets in Greater Cairo and protect them from violence, abuse and risky behaviors. 
 
Children living and working on the street are one of the most vulnerable groups in society because they are at high risk of violence, sexual abuse, substance abuse and health problems. UNICEF works to address the needs and vulnerabilities of these children and help to re-integrate them into society. 
 
In 2007, 12 Starwood senior management representatives covering each EAME region and the divisional office began the Road to Awareness bike ride by cycling 450km in the Tour de France. Their heroic efforts succeeded in raising nearly 250,000 Euros for a child-to-child radio project in Mozambique, and at the same time marked the introduction of the Le Méridien hotels to the Check Out for Children partnership with UNICEF. For more information on Road to Awareness please go to www.roadtoawareness.com.
