Sikhcess holds blood donation camp
|
Sikhcess association and Asiatic Building Material LLC with the support of the Dubai Health Authority Blood Donation Centre and Emirates Thalassemia Society is organising a blood donation camp for the Trauma and Thalassemia patients who badly need blood to survive.
Dr. Laila Mohammed Al Shaer, a consultant in molecular Haematology and Head of the Blood Donation Centre, DHA said: "Blood is in constant demand for treatment of accident victims, cancer cases, people with thalassemia, haemophilia and for use during surgery. The demand for blood never lets up. As a result, maintaining an adequate blood supply is a challenge-especially when seasonal chronic shortage of blood supply occurs during the summer and the month of Ramadan. The only way to meet demand is to have the generous support of the volunteer blood donors”.
Ensuring we have a regular supply of blood and blood products is essential for the future health of Dubai residents. With the expansion of health care facilities and the increasing population growth, we are increasingly concerned that our current donor database will not adequately cope with the constant demand for more blood.
Mr. Abdul Baset Al Merdas from Emirates Thalassemia Society said “we are very happy that voluntary organisations like Sikhcess are coming forward for this noble cause. Statistically, the Thalassemia Patients in Thalassemia Centre Dubai itself need more than 16,000 units of blood every year. Hence, blood is surely a vital constituent for the survival of these Thalassemia patients. So unless someone like you cares, nothing can make the lives of these patients better. This act of kindness this Ramadan, will not just benefit the Thalassemia patients but also the generous blood donors. Emirates Thalassemia Society is always ready for such opportunities to support the Thalassemia Patients
Mr Surinder S Gouri, Chairman of Asiatic Building Material said “This activity is in line with our commitment towards the community. This is a voluntary service and everyone is invited to join us in supporting this noble humanitarian cause. As a sincere corporate entity, we will continue to organise such activities in future as well.
The camp is scheduled to be held on Friday, the 28th August 2009 from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Asiatic Building Material Co., Al Quoz.
