WAFI UNVEILS RAMADAN WITH FREEJ
|
WAFI unveiled its Ramadan activities at a special event on Monday 24th August giving invited guests the chance to experience the world of FREEJ, the most popular 3D animated cartoon series in the Middle East. Throughout the mall the tale of four national women living in modern day Dubai has now come to life with a variety of activities to raise money to support UAE orphans with the Red Crescent Organisation.
FREEJ was originally launched in 2006 and is the brainchild of Mohammed Saeed Harib. The main characters are Um Saeed, Um Saloom, Um Allawi and Um Khammas and they have a very amusing way of dealing with life’s challenges. Watch, listen and learn how they tackle the new social issues of the city's boom, in a replica of Um Saeed's home with a plasma screen to sit and watch the series.
There is another special house with life size Freej characters for guests to have their photographs taken and receive a delightful framed memento of the visit. Freej will also be selling different items of merchandise, with a percentage of the total sales going to the chosen charity.
The board game, which is situated in the main atrium of the mall, is one of the key activities to raise funds whilst learning about the UAE and Freej, guests can play by donating a minimum of ten dirhams to the Red Crescent during the Holy Month.
Shaun Ollier, Business Development Manager for Lammtara, stated, “As the principle creators and property owners of FREEJ we are proud to announce our partnership with WAFI during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
When we were approached to embrace Ramadan through the eyes of FREEJ we felt this would be a great opportunity to communicate the importance of the Holy Month of Ramadan through the lovely old ladies of FREEJ, who have captured the hearts of people, since their launch.
The activities encourage the art of giving, by supporting a charitable campaign, as this is one of the most important aspects of the Holy Month.
Lammtara supported the creation of a subtle theme to celebrate Ramadan and raise awareness for what it means, by creating a traditional local experience to appeal to all nationalities. FREEJ, which means ‘neighbourhood’, communicates a message that brings together, family, friends, culture, beliefs, and tradition all under one roof and we believe that everyone will experience a delightful time during their visits to WAFI”.
Khan Murjan will also be playing host to an exclusive ‘meet and greet’ for these special icons of local culture - Um Saeed, Um Khammas, Um Saloom , Um Allawi and Abood; every weekend [Wednesday - Saturday] from 8.30 – 10pm.
Mohamed Saeed Harib has also donated several prints of ‘original’ Freej drawings to raise money for the charity, giving visitors to Khan Murjan the chance to own a piece of Freej history. The prints are displayed in the Khan Murjan Gallery and a silent ‘private’ bid can be made for each picture. At the end of Eid the successful bidders will be contacted to pay the agreed sum to the Red Crescent and the print will be personally signed and delivered to the contributor.
“The main aim of presenting Freej at Wafi for Ramadan is to raise as much money as possible for the Red Crescent and assist in sustaining their orphanage projects in the UAE throughout the coming year”, said Abdulla Bin Hussain, Director of Local Affairs and Marketing. “In the true spirit of Ramadan we are pleased to be celebrating the Holy Month by offering families a unique and fun experience to enjoy together. Ramadan is a time for families and we hope that all who visit Wafi during this special month will take the opportunity to reflect on the importance charity, whilst enjoying the activities that celebrate local culture. We are honoured to have Mohammed Saeed Harib to support this initiative at Wafi, as Freej is now an icon of local culture and loved by all.”
