Mall of the Emirates and Deira City Centre combined their resources to give away AED 400,000 in the final draw of Dubai Summer Surprises. The joining together of the two popular leisure and retail destinations for the last raffle draw meant that visitors had double the chance of winning double the previous prizes amounts that were on offer.
In what was the ninth draw of the shopping festival, two winners scooped the top prize; one after a shopping trip at Mall of the Emirates, the other after a family spree at Deira City Centre. Each received AED100,000 cash and AED100,000 worth of vouchers - twice the amount available in previous weeks – and each will have plenty of time to think how they want to spend their cash and coupons, as they are both children under the age of ten.
“This is a complete surprise - I would never have expected it. I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Mall of the Emirates,” revealed the father of the youngest winner, four-year-old Omar Nasser Saeed, adding that it was a day he would never forget. Mr Nasser, who shops regularly at the Mall, spent AED103,000 on his shopping trip, an amount that secured his son the winning ticket.
Sharing top prize with Omar was ten-year-old Asma Ali Salem Al Abdooli from Ras Al Khaimah, although her immediate reaction was that it was a friend playing a joke on her. It wasn’t until she checked the number on her draw coupon that she realised it was for real. “It is the first time we have won anything and I am thrilled,” she said, speaking after her big win. The youngest of two brothers and three sisters, Asma wasted no time in sharing her good fortune with her older siblings by buying laptops for them all.
Fuad Sharaf, vice-president for Mall of the Emirates, stated that this year’s DSS had been a great success and the mega joint promotion on offer by Mall of the Emirates and Deira City Centre had proved hugely popular. “The attention that this attracted was fantastic,” he said. “We promised one of the biggest and best giveaways and that’s exactly what we delivered. The sales and discounts that were available at both Deira City Centre and Mall of the Emirates were exceptional and the shoppers have been coming in their droves to take advantage of it,” he added. “Of course, congratulations go to the two winners of our biggest draws, but also to all the shoppers who enjoyed DSS with the Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls.”
Fuad Al Najjar, Vice President Deira City Centre, was also very happy with the twin promotion. “Deira City Centre and Mall of the Emirates are two of the most popular destinations in Dubai for shopping and leisure and we felt that it was a great idea to join together to double the excitement by offering double the chances of winning double the prizes,” he said. “I am very pleased for Omar and Asma and I’m sure they will both enjoy their future shopping trips to spend their cash and vouchers,” he added.
