The Dubai Health Authority and the Dubai Women’s College organized yesterday a campaign entitled: “You are Safe with us” to promote awareness about early detection of breast cancer.
The campaign is primarily aimed to create awareness amongst the students of Dubai Women’s College.
This national campaign, to spread awareness about breast cancer is launched by Wellness Center at DWC which is affiliated to the Primary Healthcare Department at Dubai Health Authority. The campaign was launched to coincide with World Breast Cancer Day and is being organized in conjunction with Dubai Women’s College.
The campaign is part of other campaigns launched in the UAE and is aimed at spreading awareness about breast cancer, acquainting students and employees about the importance of early detection and encouraging them to have regular breast examinations.

Dr Ahmed Ibrahim bin Kalban, Executive Director of the Primary Healthcare Sector of Dubai Health Authority, stressed on the importance of early detection of breast cancer and highlighted the unlimited support offered by His Excellency Saeed Al Murooshid, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority in this initiative that is aimed at creating awareness and promoting educational activities to educate the public about breast cancer.
Dr Kalban said that research has proved that early detection significantly curbs complications, thereby allowing patients several treatments options. He said early detection gives patients 90% chance to recover.
Dr. Howard Reed, said that breast cancer has been identified as one of the ten most common cancers among national and expatriate women in the UAE."Together, with Dubai Health Authority, we can make a huge impact on the lives of our students. We are committed to the vital mission of eliminating breast cancer which is one of the leading causes of death amongst women in the UAE."
Dr Bin Kalban visited Wellness Center in Dubai Women’s College where Dr Rafea Fadel informed him about the services offered to students. He stressed that the Dubai Health Authority in general are ready to provide all possible support to the center to attain the set goal of creating a new generation with greater sense of awareness.
Dr Rafea said statistics on breast cancer has prompted authorities to take serious action and awareness initiatives. “We need to make an effort to spread awareness amongst women about this problem, especially as experts in this field highlight that the causes behind breast cancer are not yet known and therefore regular breast examinations are important to detect any changes in the breast at an early stage.”
She noted that breast cancer is among the major reasons for women’s death in the world. In the Middle East, around 70 per cent of cases are diagnosed in advanced stages, and in the UAE breast cancer is one of the major causes of death among women.
