Jean-Yves Charlier, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Promethean, a world leader in interactive classroom solutions, has won the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA) Award for the best CEO of private equity backed companies in the UK. The Award recognises the achievements of CEO’s throughout 2008 and nominees selected from across the UK, were judged on their companies performance.
Under Jean-Yves Charlier’s leadership, Promethean further consolidated its strong market position across the 90 countries it operates in and achieved revenue growth of 49% in 2008, compared to 25% in the previous year. Key initiatives instigated by Jean Yves in 2008 included focusing the business solely on the education sector, adopting a global indirect sales model and accelerating new product development investment.
Promethean attracted funding from private equity firm, Apax Partners Limited, in 2004 when it came to the fore as one of the UK’s fastest growing technology companies. Underlying its success is the proven effectiveness of ActivClassroom solutions in transforming teaching and learning. Independent studies have repeatedly shown the proven benefits for teachers and students alike of using interactive whiteboards and learner response systems, and recent studies have further demonstrated the direct link between Interactive Whiteboards use and improved test results.
Prior to joining Promethean in September 2007, Jean-Yves Charlier was CEO of Colt Telecom plc and Chief Operations Officer of BT Global Services.
The award was decided by a panel of judges including CBI and Dow Jones advisers, senior private equity professionals and representatives from the BVCA, the leading body for the private equity and venture capital industry in the UK.
