A world renowned expert in Pediatric Neurosurgery visits Mafraq Hospital

Mafraq hospital (Managed & in partnership with Bumrungrad) hosts Professor Robert Keating, Chief of the division of pediatric neurosurgery at the Children's National Medical Center and the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, during the period from November 1st to 3rd 2009
Mr. John Nikens, CEO of Mafraq Hospital stated that the Hospital is highly invested in promoting and sponsoring conferences, scientific presentations and lectures and values the importance of continuing medical education for physicians in all disciplines that is aimed to stimulate the development of physicians and the medical sector at all levels, especially since such meetings are a great opportunity to take advantage of the various international experiences and work to provide a fertile scientific environment that contribute to the enrichment of knowledge and access to all that is new in this area.
Mr. Nickens pointed to the vision of Abu Dhabi Health Services (SEHA) that owns and operates Mafraq Hospital that sees the importance of transferring medical knowledge as well as the acquisition and sharing of experience with others to serve the community, in addition to the efforts of "SEHA" to enhance health service delivery in the country.
The chief medical officer at Mafraq Hospital, Dr. Mohammad Yaman stated that establishing a network of strong relationships with various leading medical institutions in the world and hosting such events is of great importance and interest to recognize that the latest methods of treatment. Dr. Yaman stated that Professor Robert Keating, the Chairman of Neurosurgery at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, and a world-renowned in pediatric neurosurgery is the author of several books and a pioneer in the field of brain tumors in children in addition to numerous research publications that includes the areas of brain tumors, brain injuries and congenital brain malformations.
Dr. Issam Khoury, consultant and head of Department of Neurosurgery at Mafraq Hospital added that an extensive program has been prepared for the visiting professor that includes giving three lectures at the main conference hall of Mafraq hospital in addition to a 4th lecture at the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) auditorium at 6:30PM on November 2nd, 2009.
Dr. Khoury says that the lectures delivered by the visiting Professor comprise different topics that involves different specialties including neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, orthopedic and spine surgeries. Professor Keating will also be seeing a number of cases and neurosurgical procedures will be conducted if necessary.
Dr. Khaled Zamel, consultant and chief of pediatric neurology at Mafraq Hospital and assistant professor at the Ohio State University and Nationwide children’s hospital added that Professor Keating will be giving three lectures at Mafraq hospital. The first lecture titled “Spinal dysraphism and implications for evaluation of scoliosis”, the second lecture about “The management of Chiari malformations and syringomyelia” and the third lecture will focus on “The Asymmetric Calvarium: Current approaches to the treatment of craniosynostosis”.
A fourth lecture, will be conducted at the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) auditorium is titled “The evolution of intra-operative imaging in Pediatric Neurosurgery: Past, present and Future”
