HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, HE Sultan Bin Sulayem witness agreement, marking major step
Agreement signed at inaugural SITL Dubai 2009
Dubai, November 3, 2009 (ME Newswire): Economic Zones World (EZW) and Dubai Aviation City Corporation (DACC) today (Tuesday, November 3, 2009) announced the creation of the Board for the development and implementation of the ambitious Dubai Logistics Corridor, planned to be the world’s largest multi-modal logistics platform.
Under the agreement, witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman, Dubai Aviation City Corporation, and His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, Dubai World, the parent company of EZW, Salma Hareb, Chief Executive Officer, EZW and Rashed Buqara’a, Chief Operating Officer, DACC, were appointed Members of the Board. Two more members, one each from EZW and DACC, will be nominated at a later date.
The formation of the Board marks a significant step forward in the creation of the Dubai Logistics Corridor, the region’s first truly multimodal logistics platform, linking sea, land and air, to facilitate the transportation of goods in record time.
The Board will formulate the long term plan to ensure the sustained development of the Dubai Logistics Corridor and the alignment of its concept with national economic objectives.
In the short term this will involve overseeing the four areas of collaboration including: the development and implementation of common business processes to benefit customers by enabling a seamless and fast transaction turnaround for goods and freight passing between the two adjacent locations; The development of One-Stop-Shop services including registration, licensing, and management of human capital; The development of an operational platform, setting out consistent rules, regulations and offerings; And lastly, focus on business development, where the two entities would align their respective capabilities in areas of marketing and promotion. This would result in a more synergistic and effective approach to acquiring new customers by promoting a unified offering.
H.H Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, praised the major step and commented: “Dubai has always been a trading hub. The Dubai Logistics Corridor is the first step to make Dubai the fastest, most agile logistics platform for the global supply chains.”
His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: “Today we have covered an important milestone in developing the Dubai Logistics Corridor. The Board, with the proven capability of its members, will provide the right momentum for the whole process. We are committed to keeping pace with Jebel Ali’s dramatic infrastructure developments, which will soon redefine the logistics and supply chain industries in the region.”
EZW and DACC began their collaboration on the Dubai Logistics Corridor in July, 2009 with the aim to double Dubai’s world class industrial and logistics infrastructure. The Dubai Logistics Corridor will be driven by the combined logistical and operational power provided by the Al Maktoum International Airport, Jebel Ali Port and the Free Zones (Jafza for EZW and Dubai Logistics City and Aviation City for DACC).
