- Pre-employment courses enhance Emirati employability while helping to fulfil Dubai Aluminium Company’s technical skill requirements
Dubai - Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (“DUBAL”) – the entirely state-owned enterprise that operates the world’s largest modern primary aluminium smelter with a captive power station – has enrolled 27 young UAE Nationals as Pre-employment Course (“PEC”) trainees for the 2009/2010 year. The development reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the Emiratization of DUBAL’s workforce through training and skills development, as well as other initiatives.
DUBAL’s PEC programmes are designed to give UAE National trainees both theoretical knowledge and practical on-the-job work experience in technical departments. They form part of DUBAL’s comprehensive nationalization policy, which is aligned to that of the Dubai government, and comprise formal classroom teaching interventions alternating with hands-on technical training within the smelter, all under the supervision of trained and motivated teams.
Enormous support and encouragement is received both from management and the end-users, thereby ensuring that the PEC programmes provide a solid platform for young UAE Nationals to begin carving a career path. The on-the-job component provides insight into dealing with real-time problems; while giving them a competitive edge for meeting future challenges. It also hones their skills and knowledge in technical fields.
The induction of the new trainees took place during a formal ceremony during which Mohammed Ali Al Owais (Manager: Organisational Development) motivated the trainees to augment their knowledge by taking as much as possible from these courses. He highlighted DUBAL’s efforts to develop UAE Nationals and assured them of his incessant support in this regard.
In turn, Amin Fikree (Manager: Training Operations & Projects) congratulated the group on being selected for these advanced education courses. He encouraged the trainees to make the utmost effort during their training so as to attain the target levels within the specified time. He also expressed his gratitude to all the departments concerned for their support, namely Process control (Potrooms, Reduction material, Casthouse), Power & Desal.
Strict industrial practices are in place to prepare these young UAE Nationals for their future careers. Upon completion of the PEC programme, the trainees will receive internal and/or external certificates from internationally recognized institutes. In this way, the courses serve as foundation for higher-level studies through open learning or other educational packages provided by DUBAL.
