Dubai - Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has received in his office His Excellency Imad Adnan Madani, General Consul of the Saudi Arabian General Consulate in Dubai. The visit comes within the framework of RTA’s efforts to build relations and strengthen continuing cooperation with various entities locally, regionally and internationally.
The meeting discussed means to strengthening cooperation and exchanging experiences between the RTA and its counterparts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director briefed the Saudi Consul on the major projects currently undertaken by RTA, including modernization of roads network, construction of new crossings on Dubai Creek where the number of lanes increased from only 19 at RTA inception to 48 in 2008. Discussions also covered Dubai Metro project; the world’s longest automated driverless train to be carried out as a single project.
Al Tayer said: “RTA has committed itself to complying with the best practices in each phase in order to realize the desired objectives of safe and smooth transport for all and enhance Dubai’s presence on the global map”. He pointed out that the UAE in general and Dubai Emirate in particular are witnessing tremendous developments that have led to influx of tourists and investors who look at UAE as their preferred option where they can set up their projects and investments, and capitalize on the excellent infrastructure available. This also required a reliable network of roads and multi-modal transport to absorb the increasing growth of population, projects and urban expansion.
“RTA has carried out sweeping overhaul of transportation systems that included purchase of modern buses of world-class standards including articulated buses and double-decker buses in addition to modernization of Abras and operation of water buses”. The next period, he said, will witness operation of water taxi and the Ferry Dubai in addition to operation of phase I of Dubai Metro project. He added that the remaining stations on the Red Line will be opened in phases in February 2010 and that the Green Line will start functioning in June 2010.
For his part, His Excellency Imad Adnan Madani commended the comprehensive development overwhelming Dubai Emirate in a record time. As a result, he noted, Dubai has now become a point of attraction for investors, businessmen and tourists, thanks to the wise leadership and insight of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He also hailed the Dubai Metro project which he described as another quality addition to mobility in the region adding a beautiful dimension to the Emirate, providing a new means of transport for passengers and considerably reducing traffic congestion.
