Public Transport Agency at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) provided shuttle bus service from Al Tawar (3) and Rashidiya Metro station to the venue of Dubai Airshow 2009 at Dubai Airport Expo Centre (Terminal 1). The service, which was run from the first day of the event, was warmly welcomed by large numbers of the exhibition visitors. RTA has deployed 20 modern buses and 1957 taxis to run this service throughout the exhibition days.

Essa Abdurrahman Al Dosari, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency (PTA), emphasized that the Agency, through this initiative, aims to effectively contribute to this exhibition which brings together the leading world companies specialized in military and civil aviation industry under one roof. A high standard transport service is being provided to visitors and participants in this significant event which normally takes place in Dubai Emirate every two years.

“RTA is keen on introducing scientific solutions with a view to promoting and upgrading the level of such services and expanding their scope in a way that matches the high prestige of Dubai as an international economic and trade centre and its international reputation in organizing exhibitions and conferences. This is particularly relevant as the buses deployed for this service have been procured by the RTA from leading international specialized manufacturers, and they have been custom-built to meet the service requirements and standards using the latest technology on offer in this vital field of public transport” said Al Dosari.

“This step comes within the framework of the strategic plan set by RTA to promote mass transport means in Dubai and attract additional numbers of passengers to curtail traffic congestion on roads, while exhibitions and major events such as Dubai Airshow are in progress. RTA has keen interest in expanding this vital service and is making strenuous endeavours to up the rate of trips made by mass transport means by providing transport options of high quality, affordable cost, full geographic coverage and capable of competing with private vehicles. This could also be achieved through spreading the awareness and orienting the culture as well as the prevailing social perspective about using mass transport means. It will also contribute to enhancing integration between public transport modes, including the metro and marine transport means” continued Al Dosari.

Al Dosari expected that such a step would be a quality addition capable of uplifting the level of services provided to the increasing numbers of visitors and participants in Dubai Airshow 2009 and other specialized exhibitions. The provided services would meet the requirements of the increasing participants and visitors heading to Dubai to attend these various activities and events spanning all sectors and spheres. The service will also ensure smooth traffic flow and encourage various segments of the public to use the service rather than their own cars for transportation from and to the exhibition centre. This will, undoubtedly, contribute to soothing traffic congestion particularly during the morning and evening peak hours.

Ten of the 20 allocated buses for serving Airshow visitors will operate from 0700 hours a.m. to 1900 hours p.m. and the other ten from 1500 hours p.m. to 1900 hours p.m.

The service reflects RTA dedicated support and effective participation in this important event which was kicked off on Sunday 15th November and continues for five days. The present convocation attracted participation of 900 exhibitors and is expected to be visited by more than 50,000 visitors. The event is considered the 3rd largest specialized exhibition of its kind in the world and draws wide international and regional attention.
