DHA delegation visits Samsung Medical Center (SMC) in Seoul, Korea
|
Dubai - A delegation from the Dubai Health Authority headed by Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman, Medical Director at Dubai Hospital and Chairman of the Overseas Medical Treatment Committee, recently visited the Samsung Medical Center, the Samsung Seoul Hospital and the Samsung Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Korea. The delegation was accompanied by representatives from INDEX Holding, chaired by Mr. Abdul Salam Al Madani President of INDEX Holding.
Dr. Jong Chul Rhee, President and CEO of the Samsung Medical Centre and Dr. Han-Yong Shao President and Director of the Samsung Seoul Hospital received the delegation and briefed them on the medical services provided by Samsung in Seoul, Korea, where the Samsung Seoul Hospital is ranked as the number one medical centre in South Korea.
Samsung Medical Group consists of three hospitals in addition to specialized centers for organ transplant, cardiac & vascular treatment, stroke and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes and other specialties. The Samsung Medical Centre was founded in 1994 while the Samsung Comprehensive Cancer Centre was inaugurated in 2008.
During this visit, the DHA delegation discussed ways to boost cooperation between DHA and SMC. The two parties agreed to transfer complicated cases from Dubai to Korea for patients who require heart, lung, kidney or liver transplant, cancer treatments, heart, brain or digestive system treatments.
The two parties also agreed that SMC will provide the DHA healthcare practitioners education and continuous medical training facilities. Furthermore, SMC doctors shall also visit DHA hospitals to provide patients with specialized treatments in Dubai.
Dr. Jong –Chul Rhee assured the DHA that all Samsung hospitals and medical centers shall readily provide advanced medical services to all cases which are transferred from Dubai, beginning from the first quarter of 2010.
He said Samsung is keen to play a prominent role in the medical sector in the Middle East region and that SMC will soon launch their first medical centre in the Middle East region in Dubai.
The DHA delegation also met the Minister of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs in Korea, H.E. Young Hak Yoo, Korean Vice Minister of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs and H.E. Ganglip Kim Director General of the Bureau of Health Industry in Korea.
The Vice Minister had welcomed the UAE delegation to Seoul and said, “The Ministry of Health in Korea shall provide all the support required to ensure that the cases coming from the UAE to Seoul for treatment at the Samsung Medical Centre are given special care and attention.”
Dr. Abdul Rahman thanked the Vice Minister and the Korean delegates for their support and cooperation.
