  • Abu Dhabi residents and visitors to benefit from free parking for 9  days during Eid holidays and National Day

Abu Dhabi- The Department of Transport (DoT) announced today that Mawaqif will offer free parking in Abu Dhabi over the forthcoming holidays from 26th November to 3rd December 2009 to commemorate Arafat Day, Eid Al Adha holidays and UAE National Day. Regular parking fees will commence as normal from 5th December 2009.

Najib Al Zarooni / General Manager of Parking at the Department of Transport confirmed, “All Mawaqif controlled areas in Abu Dhabi will be free for residents and visitors over the holiday period. This is in line with the DoT’s commitment to providing convenience to the Abu Dhabi community during all religious and national day celebrations.”

Eng. Al Zarooni added, “In order for everyone to benefit from the free parking, we ask that Abu Dhabi motorists follow the traffic laws and not to misuse the parking spaces during this holiday period.” As always, it is recommended that vehicles refrain from parking illegally on the pavement, blocking roads and parking spaces in order to avoid fines.

Mawaqif is a comprehensive and integrated program for the management of parking in the capital, Abu Dhabi. The Department of Transport introduced Mawaqif in October 2009 as part of its strategic plan to find the best possible solutions for transport and traffic-related issues. The parking management program provides a sustainable solution aimed at ensuring a greener, more accessible and less congested city. This initiative supports Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 and the Department of Transport’s plans to place Abu Dhabi as one of the leading world capitals with regards to focusing on mobility, connectivity and transport.

Eng. Al Zarooni concluded, “On behalf of the team at Mawaqif and the DoT, I would like to wish all UAE nationals and residents an Eid Mubarak and congratulate them on the 38th National Day of the United Arab Emirates.”
