  • Demi Moore, Eva Mendes, Jenifer Aniston, Ashton Kutcher and Julia Stiles attend Broadway play

The year 2009 marks the third year that Montblanc, global luxe manufacturer of classic fine writing instruments, handcrafted timepiece collections and timeless jewelry designs, will be the title sponsor of The 24 Hour Plays On Broadway. Montblanc’s continued support is born out of the brand’s pledge to encourage arts patronage and proper funding of arts education initiatives for aspiring young artists; a goal that is not only at the heart of Montblanc’s philosophy of helping others but is also at the center of the efforts executed by the charity beneficiary, Urban Arts Partnership.

The programs executed by Urban Arts Partnership have contributed to countless success stories from students across New York City. Proceeds raised from The 24 Hour Plays On Broadway performance benefit Urban Arts Partnership’s work in bringing arts education programs into New York City public schools and Montblanc’s participation has allowed the brand to contribute funding needed to keep these very important programs for students alive.

“In these difficult times Montblanc is especially committed to supporting arts programs in the U.S. and wants to ensure that these beneficial activities are readily available to our youth,” said Jan-Patrick Schmitz, President & CEO, Montblanc North America. “It is for this very reason that Montblanc remains committed to The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway and Urban Arts Partnership so we can lend voices and assistance to programs whose contributions help to nourish arts and culture and allow students to realize their creative dreams.”

This year marks the first time ever that Montblanc initiated an online writing contest through which aspiring writers were invited to submit writing samples for consideration for a walk on role as a contributing writer to one of the six plays that will be written and performed within 24 hours. In addition to the writing contest,

Montblanc will once again introduce a writing instrument that will be cleverly integrated by one of the writers into their play. Preceded in past years by the surprise appearance of the Marlene Dietrich and Étoile fountain pens respectively, this year’s performance will introduce the Special Edition Ingrid Bergman, an exquisitely crafted writing instrument created in homage and celebration of one of the greatest international stars in the history of entertainment.

A host of Hollywood and Broadway’s biggest stars have signed on to be a part of this year’s 24 Hour Plays on Broadway ensemble including: Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show, The Last Airbender), Amber Tamblyn (Bang Ditto, Joan of Arcadia), Anthony Mackie (The Bacchae, Notorious), Ashton Kutcher (What Happens in Vegas, That ‘70’s Show), Billy Crudup (Public Enemies, Tony Award Winner for The Coast of Utopia), Brooke Shields (Lipstick Jungle, Fury Vengeance), Claudie Blakley(Pride & Prejudice, Gosford Park), David Cross (Arrested Development, Year One), Demi Moore (The Jones, Bobby), Diane Neal (30 Rock, Law and Order: SVU), Emmy Rossum (Dare, Golden Globe Nominee for The Phantom of the Opera), Eva Mendes (Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, Last Night), Fisher Stevens (Producer of The Cove, Lost ), Jennifer Aniston (Marley and Me, The Break Up), Jennifer Esposito (Samantha Who?, Crash), Jeremy Sisto (Law & Order, Six Feet Under), Julia Stiles (Oleanna, The Bourne Ultimatum),Leslie Bibb (Iron Man, Confessions of a Shopoholic), Liev Schreiber (Tony Award Winner for Glengarry Glen Ross, Taking Woodstock), Michael Ealy (Miracle at St. Anna, Golden Globe Nominee for Sleeper Cell), Michael Kenneth Williams (The Road, The Wire), Naomi Watts (Academy Award Nominee for 21 Grams, King Kong), Rachel Dratch (My Life in Ruins, SNL), Rosario Dawson (Seven Pounds, Sin City), Rosie Perez (Pineapple Express, Academy Award Nominee for Fearless), Sam Rockwell (Frost/Nixon, Choke), Tracie Thoms (Cold Case, Rent); playwrights, David Lindsay-Abaire (Tony Award Nominee for Shrek the Musical, Pulitzer Prize for Drama Winner for Rabbit Hole), Nathan Jackson (Broke-ology, Southland), Stephen Belber (The Laramie Project, Drifting Elegant), Theresa Rebeck (The Understudy, Mauritius), Warren Leight (Tony Award Winner and Pulitzer Prize Nominee for Side Man, Law and Order Criminal Intent); and Swedish Grammy Award Winning Musical Guests A Camp, comprised of Nina Persson (vocalist, lyricist of The Cardigans) & Nathan Larson (Original Music for Dirty Pretty Things, Boys Don’t Cry). ABOUT THE 24 HOUR PLAYS ON BROADWAY:
An annual benefit event for Urban Arts Partnership, THE 24 HOUR PLAYS ON BROADWAY attracts some of entertainment’s biggest names as they join forces to participate in a rite of extreme live performance: writing, directing, and performing six original short plays, all in just 24 hours! The creative

process for THE 24 HOUR PLAYS ON BROADWAY will begin at 10PM on Sunday, November 8th – the night before the show – when a group of six writers, six directors, 24 actors, two musical guests, and a production staff gather at the American Airlines Theatre. After casts and crews have been briefed, each writer is tasked with composing a ten-minute play by 7 AM the following morning, when the directors return to read and select their piece. The casts will meet for the first time at 8 AM and, over the next 12 hours the plays are rehearsed and produced for a live presentation. At 8:00 PM, ink barely dry, the six new plays – interspersed with six musical acts – will be performed for a live audience.
