  • More corporations invited to participate in diabetes awareness campaign

The UAE 'know diabetes' campaign, has now been extended until December 15th, is gaining an overwhelming and encouraging response from residents. The extension has reactivated the corporate contact program, in which participating organisations receive lectures on the awareness and management of diabetes, in addition to receiving a free health check-up. Companies located in the emirates are encouraged to participate in the program by registering for free check-ups and seminars at their premises.

The prolongation of the campaign has been activated by Green Crescent Insurance Company, Commercial Bank of Dubai and Novo Nordisk, its key sponsors, with the aim of introducing more people to an understanding of diabetes and to encourage them to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Its initial phase, which ran from October 15th until November 14th, saw thousands of people receiving free blood sugar, blood pressure and BMI screenings at organisations and social outlets.

“Green Crescent, with its commitment to putting ‘your health first’ sees campaigns such as this as a great opportunity to address the community,” said Carl J Sardegna, CEO of Green Crescent Insurance Company. “The positive response received from participating organisations led to the extension of this program. Because diabetes is a serious issue today the second part of this program will focus on equipping more people with information to manage and monitor diabetes as well as prevent the onset of the condition by adopting a healthier lifestyle,” he added.

Novo Nordisk, a world-leader in diabetes care, is also supporting the campaign as a part of their continued community involvement, as is Commercial Bank of Dubai, which is celebrating forty years of operations in the region.

The second instalment of the know diabetes campaign is a dedicated initiative that aims to reach out to more government, private, educational, and social organisations. The first phase was successfully received at Chamber of Commerce, Abu Dhabi Council of Economic Development, RTA, Dubai Properties, CBD, University of Wollongong, Landmark, Al Danube, UAE Exchange, American University of Sharjah and Sharjah Municipality, among others.

Campaign testimonial:
"The know diabetes campaign was well received by ENOC staff. The UAE is in need of such outreach programs to help residents understand and take charge of this chronic condition. Diabetes is a silent killer and people should know that they can take measures to prevent this condition. Health campaigns such as these encourage improved well being among its audience and it is incredible that the roll out has been extended in order to reach out to people who did not have the opportunity to be a part of the first phase", said Khalid Hadi, ENOC Group Brand and Marketing Manager.

Continued Medical Education (CME)

This edition of the campaign will culminate in a CME program, which aims to bring the frontline medical practitioner up to speed with current global trends. Two separate CMEs at Abu Dhabi and Dubai will reach out to healthcare professionals.

Supporters and organisers of know diabetes aim to be continually involved in outreach programs that focus on promoting health awareness in the society as well as enhancing medical practitioners in their discipline, thus working towards a healthier community.
