- Recent launches of Arabic-specific products give more compelling reasons for Arab states to invest in proven educational tools
Dubai - Promethean, a global leader in education technology solutions, today announced that it is encouraging decision-makers in Arab states to invest in an education-led future that offers an alternative to the future warned of in a recent regional education report.
The United Nations Development Program warned in their Arab Knowledge Report 2009 that Arab states could face political and social instability if they under invest in the education of their young, expanding populations. The reported cited that Illiteracy is a big obstacle in the Arab world, where around a third of adults, 60 million people, are unable to read or write.
Majeed Sharaf, Vice President Middle East, Promethean said that there are tangible benefits to students using education technology solutions, such as those provided by Promethean: “More than 10 million children in over 90 countries worldwide are being taught using Promethean interactive technology and studies have shown that when Promethean ActivClassroom technology is employed, positive gains are made in students’ knowledge of the subject matter*.”
In the last 30 days Promethean has launched two localised products that further enhance the benefits of its products in the Arabic-speaking world:
- the introduction of Arabic character recognition to ActivClassroom for Everyone, the latest version of its award-winning collaborative classroom learning solution that allows self-paced learning while remaining intuitive and easy-to-use
- the launch of the Arabic version of Promethean Planet, Promethean’s online teaching community
The Arab Knowledge Report 2009 shows that approximately 9 million children of elementary school age in the Arab states are not attending school. This week, Promethean introduced National Geographic Young Explorer ActivLessons; a series of interactive whiteboard lessons designed specifically for kindergarten and first grade students in an effort to promote interactive and exciting content for elementary school age children.
Majeed Sharaf concluded by saying, “We all want a better education for our own children. Now we need to prioritise this around the Arabic region for all children.”
