The exhibition was open to invited guests and will be exhibited until February 2010.
The exhibition opening was attended by Muna bin Kalli, Executive Director of Dubai Ladies Club, along with Nazneen Shafi, Director of Arts and Culture, Strategic Development of Dubai Women Establishment. Students from The international Dwight School began the ceremony by singing a song dedicated to Pieces of Peace. Muna bin Kalli said: “Earlier this month, we celebrated our 38th UAE National Day - the formation of the federation, with fervour and determination to stand united with the resolve to better the lives of our people and the generations to come. To impact and contribute in making a long lasting difference in the lives of others globally. As a nation we are young but our indomitable spirit and strength comes from our forefathers whose legacies are an embodiment of change and progress.”
She added, “By participating in this shared spirit of coexistence via art to build bridges of friendship and cooperation helps us in promoting understanding and tolerance. Forming deep partnerships and engaging the children in meaningful programs enables us to enrich and impact the communities of children globally teaching them the fundamentals of human goodness.”
Students who participated in the UN exhibition are Fatima Ibrahim Al Amri, Eman Samir Shiraz Dad and Amna Samir Shiraz Dad from Marsam Mattar studios; Sheikha Sulaiman from Dubai Rehabilitation Centre; and Maryam Al Fardan from the Art Center in Dubai Ladies Club.
The project "Pieces for Peace" came in the framework of the ‘Young Minds Build Bridges of Communication’, organized by the CityArts Foundation, which supports the creative process to build bridges of cultural understanding between young people from around the world.
