  • Overwhelming response to annual award reflects business sector’s commitment to adopt benchmark trade practices

The General Secretariat of the Sharjah Economic Excellence Award (SEEA) has announced that it has extended the registration date for the 2009 edition of the Award to January 28, 2010. The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) reported that the overwhelming response generated for this year’s award demonstrates the increased commitment of the private sector to adopt more international quality standards and benchmark trade practices to help bolster Sharjah’s economic growth and development.

Nada Al Hajiri, SEEA General Coordinator, SCCI, said, “The secretariat has decided to extend the registration date for the eighth edition of the Sharjah Economic Excellence Award to allow the nominees more time to prepare and also to be able to encourage more participation from the private sector. The overwhelming response generated by this year’s award reflects the private sector’s growing commitment to adopt and implement international quality standards and benchmark trade practices to help Sharjah move towards its goal of achieving sustainable development. Moreover, we are looking towards highlighting the award as the best means to encourage the private sector to adopt a culture of quality and excellence.”

“This year we have included additional award categories, which include a Gold category, the Medium and Small firm’s category and a Business Pioneers category. One of the highlights for this year’s awards is a new award called the “Sharjah Economic Excellence Award—Economic Personality of the Year,” which aims to recognise excellence in company management, business ethics and corporate responsibility. Business establishments, enterprises and organisations can register for free through the SEEA’s official website www.seea.ae. The website is constantly updated with important details and developments on the award and aims to be an integral tool in attracting more participants,” she added.

The standards adopted for the Sharjah Economic Excellence Award was developed and based on a fully integrated program aimed at recognising the efforts of the private sector towards Sharjah’s continued economic growth. Recipients of this year’s award will receive a free and independent performance assessment from specialized experts, to be accompanied with a feedback report highlighting success areas and key points where improvements can be achieved. Other benefits include free advertisement in a Al Tijara magazine and the Award’s website; one-year free participation in SCCI’s foreign exhibitions; inclusion in the VIP firms list of all government departments of Sharjah; the use of special facilities in World Trade Club, Sharjah TV and Expo Center Sharjah. The SCCI will also provide media and marketing based activities for the winning firm and will allow the use of the final stage logo for three years. Newer incentives being introduced for winners of this year’s award is the exemption from Chamber’s annual renewal fees and the free use of the SCCI headquarters hall to organise conferences and meetings.
