International Autumn Trade Fair (IATF 10) opens Export of goods and services expanded 7.6% (Dh. 746 billion in 2008), says Ministry of Economy report

H.E. Khalid A. Bin Sulayem, Director General of Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing)DTCM) today inaugurated the 24th International Autumn Trade Fair (IATF10) along the International Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair) IFJA10) and International Watch & Clock Fair (IWCF 10).
Organised by Al Fajer Information and Services from January 17 – 19, the 24th International Autumn Trade Fair (IATF10) has attracted an official pavilion from Iran apart from over 25Iranian companies participating in this year’s edition of the show.
Mr. Khalid Omar Abdullah, Deputy General Manager, Al Fajer Information & Services said: “Iran is one of the key export destinations for UAE and offers immense mutual trade opportunities. The Iran pavilion is organized by Iran International Exhibitions Company under the banner of Ministry of Commerce.
According to the Central Statistics Department of the UAE Ministry of Economy, consumption in the UAE amounted to Dh. 483.9 billion in 2008, at a growth percentage of 32 per cent. Total exports of goods and services increased to 746.7 billion, achieving a growth percentage of 7.6 per cent. Crude oil constituted 36.2 per cent of commodity exports structure in 2008, whereby re-export comprised 38.8 per cent, free zones exports 11.2 per cent, oil by-products 2.5 per cent, gas 4.5 per cent and other exports 6.8 per cent.
On the other hand, total imports of goods and services increased to Dh. 562.6 billion in 2008, compared with Dh. 545.3 billion and growth of just 3.2 per cent.
The report says that the ministry of economy also made it one of its basic roles to drive maximum benefit from economic agreements signed with countries world-wide with the ultimate goal of enhancing growth and development.
Hong Kong is also part of IATF’10 for the sixth consecutive year on a larger scale. This year the participation features 80 exhibitors. The large scale participation of Hong Kong comes in the backdrop of the increasing trade between the East Asian country and the UAE and the region in general. The UAE is the single largest trade partner of Hong Kong in the Middle East region. HK pavilion is being organised under the banner of Hong Kong Trade Development Council & will display a variety of consumer products, including gifts & premium, electronics, houseware & household products, and fashion & fashion accessories.
Zhejiang Foreign Trade & Economic Co-operation Bureau is repeating their presence at this edition. Geared up to meet the contemporary living with style & innovation, they will bring in a wide range of goods manufactured in Zhejiang Province of China with participation from over 80 well established enterprises.
Suhas Dhaimade, Exhibition Manager, said: “In line with past trends, participation from China continues to be enormous, with the pavilions being organised by several official bodies like China Foreign Trade organisation, China Orient, Sinobal China, Shanghai Global, Shenzhen Wanbo, Asian Capital, China Chamber of Textiles, CCPIT-Hunan, CCFNA and others. These participants have been represented at the IATF since its inception.”
Korea is also set to make their presence felt with over 45 companies from various provinces of Korea. Owing to its high expectation and value as a means for business, KITRI, KITA and Busan Economic Promotion Agency are giving extensive support to Korean exhibitors. Bringing new realms of business to explore, Korea promises to offer a broad range of products with active participation.
Abdullah added: “IATF10, whichhas successfully emerged as a leading buyer-seller meeting ground for the consumer goods segment, is featuring 600 exhibitors from 20 countries. The exhibition, ranked among the more popular general trade fairs in the region, is spread over an area of 13000 square meters.”
Over the last 24 years, IATF has been recognised as a key regional business platform for the global consumer goods industry keen to expand footprints in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The exhibition’s significance comes at a time when global consumer goods manufacturers are shifting their focus to developing economies.
This year, the fair is hosting six official national pavilions supported from their governments. The national pavilions include 300 exhibitors from China, 80 from Hong Kong, 35 from Korea, 25 from Iran, 25 from India and 15 from Malaysia. Other countries participating at IATF10 at individual levels include Japan, Indonesia, Poland, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.
IATF10 will unveil through out an exciting mix of products comprising cosmetics, foodstuffs, electronics, household appliances, plastic household products, toys, stationery, electrical items, handicrafts, carpets, garments, textiles, house ware, kitchen ware, sanitary ware, novelties, machinery, machine tools, hardware accessories and diary products.”
