As part of its awareness and entertainment activities for 2010, the Dubai Hobbies Club, a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Est. for Young Business Leaders, hosted a group of students from the Dubai-based Al Sufouh Secondary School for Girls, accompanied by members of the school’s management and educational boards.
The visit programme included a number of multiplayer games that focused on strengthening teamwork and cooperation between individual students, as well as a number of single player games and competitions. Environmental awareness activities were included in the programme with the aim of promoting practices for sustainable environmental development among students for the welfare of the current and future generations. The students concluded their visit with a dinner in nature.
Mr Arif Bin Ali Al Abbar, Managing Director of the Hobbies Club, said: “It is very important to come up with new ways to raise awareness among the young generation of their responsibility to protect the natural resources of the communities in which they live. Our activities aim to increase access to nature in order to help students realize its value, as educational lectures and brochures will not be enough to achieve that goal”.
“We will continue to communicate with younger generation, particularly those within the UAE’s schools, and to spread awareness among them regarding the necessity of protecting the environment. We hope that the students who visited us today will share the experience they gained with their friends and families,” he added.
The Al Sufouh Secondary School students were delighted with the visit to the Club, and expressed their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Club’s management.
Established in 1996, the Dubai Hobbies Club is the region’s oldest educational and sporting club. It aims to support national youth and encourage young men and women to explore their hobbies by getting involved in sporting, recreational and educational activities through a range of educational courses, youth camps, awareness campaigns and joint programmes organized in collaboration with various ministries and government departments.
