Arabian Power and Water Summit 2010 announced by MEED
|
- Unprecedented gathering of industry leaders join 2010 Summit to analyse trends, opportunities and effective policies
MEED, the region’s premier business intelligence provider, has announced the dates of the second Arabian Power and Water Summit. Taking place on 30-31 March at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi, UAE, the Summit will be held under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) with HE Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi delivering the keynote address.
The region’s power and water industry faces increasing pressure to generate sufficient power and water supply due to its rapid population growth in the last few years. Now is the time for key clients and developers to act and prepare for future demand expectations. MEED estimates that new power capacity requirement to 2015 is 7,500MW and new desalination requirement to 2015 is 310 million gallons per day, which calls for substantial investment.
Edmund O’Sullivan, MEED Events Chairman said, “The power and water industry is vital to ensuring the economic success of the region, so it is of critical importance that companies and individuals have their fingers firmly on the pulse of industry developments and the opportunities within it. Our second Arabian Power and Water Summit will host an unprecedented gathering of industry leaders and encompass prime intelligence and real facts.”
The Arabian Power and Water Summit 2010 will provide a comprehensive analysis of the current state of the regional power and water market and will address how the region is coping with gas feedstock challenges. Also under discussion at the Summit will be the creation of effective and workable energy conservation policies in addition to identifying the ideal portfolio for GCC future generation.
HE Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, Director of Privatisation Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) heads up, once again, the distinguished speakers attending the event, with Wartsilla, the global leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets, as gold sponsor.
This year’s event also plays host to an unprecedented gathering of industry leaders including the Chairman of Libya’s General Desalination Corporation, Ahmed Gumatti, speaking on the ambitious power and water plans in Libya. Kamel Sid from Sonelgaz providing an update about developments in Algeria and senior representatives from both the Mubadala Development Company and International Power will also join the Summit’s programme.
The event will provide key intelligence on the industry with a comprehensive analysis of the current projects in the regional power and water market with facts, figures, forecasting and Angus Hindley, Research Editor, MEED updating delegates on the progress of key countries power and water restructuring programmes.
The Summit will be preceded by the Alternative Energy Forum which will be held on the 29th March 2010 at the same venue and will also provide critical information and insights into trends within the GCC and discuss the possible implications of the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference for the region.
O’Sullivan continued, “The fact is the region is facing an unprecedented capacity building programme when it comes to power generation. This forum provides the perfect platform for the industry’s most senior level decision-makers and stakeholders to share ideas and develop plans for the future.”
