  • Leading Global Provider of Medical Technology MAQUET to Set Up Equipment Training Centre at DuBiotech

MAQUET Middle East, a market innovator for infrastructure, products, solutions and therapeutic applications in operating rooms and intensive care units, based in Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech), a member of TECOM Investments, today demonstrated superior engineering technology for operating rooms and intensive care units on the sidelines of Arab Health 2010.

In its demonstration at a press event, MAQUET Middle East successfully erected two full-scale and fully-equipped operating theatres on the first day of Arab Health 2010. Overnight between the first and second day of the event, the two average-sized operating theatres were merged into one large modern ‘Hybrid Operating Room’.

MAQUET Middle East’s display provided a preview into the technology that will be available year-round at its equipment training centre at the Nucleotide Complex in the life sciences park. MAQUET will train its customers on optimising work flow and therapeutic applications for delivering efficient services.

MAQUET, based in Rastatt, Germany, is a global market leader in medical systems and shares its Middle East office at DuBiotech with its sister company ArjoHuntleigh and its parent company GETINGE.

The media briefing at Arab Health 2010, the Middle East’s largest healthcare industry exhibition and conference, was led by Salah Malek, Managing Director, MAQUET Middle East, Michael Rieder, Vice-President, GETINGE Medical Systems, Germany, and Dr Marco Baccanti, Executive Director, DuBiotech.

The demonstration at the exhibition was aimed at showcasing the engineering proficiency of MAQUET ME’s technology and its fitters who were able to set up the operating room under a tight time schedule of eight hours, with no welding, cutting, dust, forklift, or storage room for the elements that will not be needed from the second day onwards.

Salah Malek, Managing Director, MAQUET ME, said: “In a dynamic urban environment that the GCC and especially Dubai reflect, the requirements of any specific clinical facility will continue to increase. MAQUET aims to offer its solutions as the best long term investment to meet this niche demand.

“Certainly, the product alone is not enough and MAQUET needs to train its customers on how to optimize the work flow to be more efficient in their day to day work. Arab Health offers the perfect industry platform to showcase the technology. The technology suite will also be on display all year-round at MAQUET’s new offices in DuBiotech.”

Dr Marco Baccanti, Executive Director, DuBiotech, said: “We recently announced the completion of state-of-the-art four-storey Nucleotide Laboratory Complex, the biggest in the Middle East. MAQUET Middle East is one of the first companies to commence operations at the laboratory complex. We are firm in our commitment to attract more global majors to our cluster as part of our sincere endeavour to augment the region’s biotechnology industry.”

The Nucleotide Lab Complex allows DuBiotech partners to carry out laboratory-based research and development, as well as testing and training activities in an extremely well designed environment. It also aims to encourage the conceptualisation of ideas that stimulate creativity, and facilitate peer to peer communications between researchers and industry managers.

Launched in 2005, the Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park, pursues a mission to create the biggest life sciences cluster in the Middle East, adopting a sustainable strategy. Currently, DuBiotech hosts some of the world's top pharmaceutical/biotechnology leaders such as Pfizer, Genzyme and Merck Serono, and has firmly established itself as a globally recognised centre for the life sciences industries.
