H.E. Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Emirates Publishers Association (EPA), recently visited Nasr City in Cairo as representative for the UAE in the General Assembly of the Arab Publishers Association.
 
The meeting coincided with the Cairo International Book Fair, which took place from 28 January to 10 February 2010, drawing around 800 participants from both Arab and foreign publishers from 31 countries.
 
The meeting agenda included the discussion of a number of important issues, including the approval of amendments to internal regulations of the Association, a discussion of the board of directors’ report on the 2007-2009 period, a review of financial statements and the election of new board members for the period 2010-2012.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikha Bodour said, “We are keen to communicate with our fellow Arab publishers and to strengthen the cultural and intellectual ties between UAE and other Arab nations. This meeting offers us an excellent opportunity for forwarding those goals.”
 
“The Cairo International Book Fair is a significant event in which the EPA strives to be actively involved. We will be attending “Knowledge without Borders” lecture as well as having a number of meetings with various publishers and opinion leaders in the industry.”
 
The EPA was established on 25 February 2009 as a non-profit organization headquartered in Al Qasba, Sharjah, with the goal of developing the UAE’s publishing industry. The EPA also works closely with the National Media Council and other publishing institutions in the UAE and internationally.
 
The Arab Publishers Association was established at the General Conference for Arab Publishersheld inBeirutin April 1995. The Arab Publishers Association consists of a number of local Arab Associations, each with a representative member on the board. The APA has 25 board members in total, 13 of whom are representatives for their respective publishing associations and 12 of whom are elected at the APA’s General Assembly. The Association’s General Secretariat is based in Beirut, while the President’s office is in Cairo.
