- Recognition is based on the Chamber members’ highest re-export performance
- EnerPlastics achieved the highest number of diversified market as it also leads in the implementation of its CSR programmes
In order to recognize, support and encourage the contribution of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry presented the SME Exporter of the Quarter recognition to the Jebel Ali-based EnerPlastics during a presentation ceremony held at the Chamber premises today (Sunday).
The recognition, presented by HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, came as part of the company’s remarkable re-export performance in achieving the highest number of diversified market exhibiting its important characteristics of high incentive, internationalization and risk taking.
Besides its export performance, EnerPlastics was chosen for its corporate social responsibility as the company is an active member of the Emirates Standards and Metrology Authority’s standards steering committee and has been a chief driving force in this committee to establish oxo-biodegradable standards to be adopted by the UAE Government.
Mr. Akhter Aman, the COO and Director of EnerPlasitcs said “with the growing world population and therefore increased demand of one time use plastics, we wish to be part of the longer environmental green solution and therefore we are not only participating actively to help UAE establish rules and regulations to make plastics more environmental friendly but also simultaneously spending much resource in R&D to develop products that will meet such standards and help our customers make environmentally friendly plastics.”
EnerPlastics is a manufacturer of colour and additive masterbatches, servicing the vast plastics converting industry in the region. Their customers are located in Europe, Africa, CIS, Asia, and the Middle East including the Gulf Region as the company is able to provide high service levels to clients in addition to competitive prices, superior quality, and fast delivery. The company invests heavily in R&D and their laboratory equipment to assure prime quality levels as its production plant produces on a 24/7 basis.
Dr Belaid Rettab, Executive Director, Economic Research & Sustainable Business Development Sector, said: “In this third cycle of the recognition, EnerPlastics demonstrated exceptional market outreach as it achieved the highest number of diversified market that reflects the characteristics of SMEs that Dubai Chamber wants to promote hence the company is the most deserving and has been selected for the recognition.”
Dr Belaid informed that the SME Exporter of the Quarter initiative was designed to highlight the exporting/re-exporting achievements of its members as well as to encourage their sustainable growth. He said that the Chamber evaluates the export information available from its certificate of origin database that also includes Free Zone companies and picks a winner for the highest export and re-export activities documented by the Chamber during one of the quarters as the companies are not allowed to apply themselves for the recognition.
Dr Belaid further stressed that besides the export performance the qualifying company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, its administrative management planning and the implementation of its sustainable growth policies which support its ultimate success in the marketplace are all considered prior to deciding on the winning organisation.
“Dubai is established as the world’s third largest re-export centre and the SME Exporter of the Quarter initiative underlines the contribution of SMEs to this notable accomplishment and serves Dubai Chamber’s strategic objectives of supporting and creating a favourable business environment in the Emirate,” added Dr Belaid,
Explaining the concept, Dr Belaid said that all registered members in good standing and employing not more than 100 staff with an annual turnover of less than AED100 million are eligible for the SME Exporter of the Quarter distinction. The recognition package includes a number of Dubai Chamber services for free which will help the company to enhance its performance and continue working towards excellence.
Under this scheme, Mohsen Line General Trading was the first company to be honored for achieving a record export volume in the last quarter of 2008 while in the first quarter of 2009 Integra International/Banian FZCO was chosen for achieving exceptional quantitative and qualitative performance and now for the third cycle of the SME of the Quarter, EnerPlastics accomplished the highest diversified market in the second quarter of 2009.
