“This relative classification of licenses reflects Sharjah’s ability to cater to the needs of the economic sectors in the emirate and the completeness of the professional work in Sharjah, which aims to achieve a much required diversification in order to set up balanced economic sectors to establish a sustainable economy. Furthermore, industrial activity is en route to prepare a perfect setting that will ensure that industrial growth rates are achieved, values are added to Sharjah’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), income sources are diversified and new productive work opportunities are created,” commented Al Mahmoud.

He continued: “The increase in the number of commercial licenses and investors' constant renewal of these licenses shed light on an economy that is able to interact with the private sector and stimulate an investment-attracting climate. This leads to the development of the economic sectors according to the directives of our wise leaders - to cater to the needs of investors and to enhance overall performance through a social and cultural capital which represents the true profit of total net investment.”

Information related to the geographic distribution of licenses issued indicated that licenses issued in Sharjah City amounted to 41,503 licenses (83.9%), topping Al Thaid (Middle Area), Khorfakkan, Daba Al Hasn and Kalba cities. Licenses in the Middle Area amounted to 3,176 (6.4%), licenses in Khorfakkan and Daba Al Hasn came to 2,705 (5.5%), while Kalba registered 2,092 licenses (4.2%).

Commercial licenses recorded the highest amount of dealings during said months, totaling 29,201, followed by professional licenses (26,605) and industrial licenses (1,719). In light of these outstanding statistics on the performance of new and renewed licenses in 2009, SEDD reiterated that its academic, monitoring, protective, promotional and strategic roles are put together to achieve customer superiority and competitiveness on the one hand, and to enhance the investment climate, on the other. In addition, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with diversified income sources and abundant payment balances, as well as absorption of the workforce and stabilized market situation, are vital aspects SEDD seeks to enhance in order to elevate the lifestyle of society.
