Under the patronage of His Excellency, Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Dubai Women’s College (DWC) hosted graduation ceremonies for the 18th and 19th cohort on February 2nd and 3rd, 2010 for Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Higher Diploma and Bachelor Degree graduates.
Around 1218 students graduated from the following programs: Bachelor’s Degrees and Higher Diplomas in Applied Communications, Business, Information Technology, Education, and Health Sciences; Advanced Diploma programs in Jewelry and Insurance; and Diploma programs in Applied Business and Technology Skills as well as Dental Nursing, and Paramedics.
Guest of Honor Mr. Mirza Al Sayyegh, Investment Advisor to HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, attended the first graduation ceremony, while Mr. Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, Governor of Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Chairman-Emirates NBD was the Guest of Honor for the second ceremony.
The ceremony, which took place at Dubai Women’s College Auditorium, was attended by Dr. Howard Reed, Senior Director of HCT and Director of DWC, who commended graduates on their motivation and ambition to realise their full potential through education, as well as their families who have given them support during the years of their study."As you move forward, more confident of your competency and obviously more accomplished, your performance at the workplace will highlight the standards of excellence that DWC offers to its graduates,” he added. “You are now role models for your Emirati community and I hope you will inspire others to follow in your footsteps to become Emirati leaders.”
As this year’s graduation theme focused on the DWC 20th anniversary, Dr. Reed pointed out that the first DWC graduates in 1992 were pioneers for the current army of over 4,000 working graduates who have changed the rules for Emirati women in the workforce and raised the standards and expectations for both working Emirati women and men. “These courageous young women changed how Emirati’s thought about themselves, and how the rest of the world thought about Emiratis,” he added.
For over 20 years, DWC has been an HCT flagship institution providing world-class education for women in the UAE. With a mission supported by the ELITE principles: Excellence, Leadership, Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, DWC has been recognized as being at the pinnacle of higher education in UAE.
From her part, Dr. Behjat Al Yousuf, DWC Associate Director, commented that since its inception in 1989, Dubai Women’s College stood out confidently as an educational institution imparting knowledge and state of the art technological skills to young Emirati women thus empowering them to meet the growing demands of the country. “Today we are celebrating the graduation of another batch of students, who are all set to meet the challenges and contribute to the sustainable development of UAE. On this occasion, we applaud the vision of the country’s leadership from His Highness President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and realize that Dubai Women’s College is on track in our continuous contribution to the nation’s progress.”
Graduating student Eman Al Tayer who graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Business and Management (Marketing), thanked DWC staff and faculty for coaching them to become UAE leaders. "I find myself very fortunate indeed to study at DWC as it is considered a path towards better opportunities to secure a successful career and future, and practical way for Emirati women to learn, evolve and practice their future to become the leaders of the next generation," Eman said, adding that DWC was also an ideal opportunity for learning how to stick to healthy lifestyle as it offers healthy food in the campus cafeteria, thus combating diabetes and obesity in UAE. “I am proud to be a DWC graduate.”
