New Dubai Chamber initiative to help businesses tap new markets

• With the spotlight on Chile, the quarterly Country Focus Briefing will empower Dubai businesses to enhance trade cooperation with one of the world’s emerging markets

 
As part of its strategic objective of promoting Dubai as an international business hub, and in order to explore new markets for its members, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry will be launching its quarterly “Country Focus Briefing” with Chile in the spotlight on Tuesday, February 9 at the Chamber premises.
 
The initiative will bring with Embassies, Business Councils, Trade Centres and Representative Offices together to introduce new business opportunities in one chosen market to Dubai’s business community and provide them with the ability to explore emerging export destinations, develop relationships with relevant trade bodies and network with other like-minded businessmen.
 
The Country Focus Briefing on Chile will be presided by HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, and will include HE Jean-Paul Tarud Kuborn; Ambassador of Chile to the UAE, and Carlos Salas; Trade Commissioner of Chile, ProChile, in addition to a large number of business representatives and members of Dubai Chamber’s Business Councils and Business Groups.
 
In light of the interest shown by a section of the Chamber’s members in trade with Chile due to the country’s investment policies that allow ease of FDIs by foreigners as well as stable laws that support investors, the choice fell on Chile which is also the international operations headquarters for the Latin American region.
 
At present, there are many sectors where UAE exports can be increased and opportunities exist for UAE companies to invest in various Chilean economic sectors including ports, construction and public work projects as well as manufacturing, aquaculture, tourism and real-estate. Chile can also use the UAE as a hub for re-exports and Asian trade as the country is negotiating FTAs and is looking for increased trade with Asian countries.
 
Buamim maintained that the Chamber is looking to discover and introduce new markets to its members so that they can expand the scope of their trade and get the chance to invest in lucrative business destinations.
 
The UAE and Chilean economies continue to grow and share some similarities in open and free trade policies and are known for supporting FDIs by foreigners in large numbers. Buamim maintained that despite the global financial crisis, both the economies are financially sound and will be the first to gain when the global economy revives.
