In cooperation with Dubai Quality Group (DQG), Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC), the subsidiary of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, organized on Wednesday 3rd February in the Dubai Chamber building, a workshop on the criteria for the Emirates Women Award (EWA) in the framework of support provided by the council to the award and in order to publicize it to businesswomen and professionals and to encourage them to become part of it.

In her welcome speech, Mrs. Raja Easa Al-Gurg, President of DBWC, highlighted the importance of Emirates Women Award that is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation, Chairman of Emirates Airlines Group, and the Honorary Patron of Dubai Quality Group (DQG).

Al-Gurg said: "This workshop is an extension of a series of meetings designed to make businesswomen and professionals aware of all matters relating to the award like its objectives, its importance, its standards and how to apply for it." She pointed out that DBWC was keen to support EWA and to harness its potential to encourage businesswomen and professionals to participate in it, for the reason that the objectives of the award were in line with the objectives of the council, and to motivate businesswomen towards excellence, innovation and creativity in their work. It is also hoped that this will also create healthy competition that helps raise the level of services and business development, improving them to advanced levels and high quality, she said.

She noted that the Emirates Women Award sought to recognize and honour the outstanding contributions of businesswomen and professionals in the United Arab Emirates. It was also noted that the award was developing in line with the increasing number of women who are planning to attain professional excellence.

Mrs. Al-Gurg thanked DQG and the organizers of the award for their efforts to publicize it and to stimulate businesswomen and professionals to participate in it. She thanked them for their keenness to encourage organizations and individuals to apply the highest standards of quality in their work, which benefited various companies and institutions. Their positive impact reflected on the reputation of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates which has been recognized globally for leadership and excellence, she said.

Mrs. Samia Al-Yousuf, Managing Director of DQG, said: “The Emirates Women Award has sought since its launch in 2003 to highlight the distinguished contributions of businesswomen and professionals in order to find a common platform through which they can exchange experience and knowledge to improve and enhance business opportunities at the professional and administrative levels."

Thanaa Al-Tabii, Organizational Excellence Advisor and Arbitrator of the Award said: "The basic criteria for the selection of winners of the Award are with a view to help women plan and create economic structures based on content innovation, which leads to building a sophisticated business community of women that contributes directly to support the process of economic and social development in the UAE."

Al-Tabii praised the pioneering role of the UAE leadership and the government in supporting women's projects, for embracing their issues and taking steps to make their participation in business and political sectors easier, noting that such efforts have succeeded in establishing the UAE as an economic model that can be emulated globally.
