DM distributes biodegradable plastic bags

• National Environment Day activities also include caricature show

 
Dubai Municipality on Thursday distributed environment friendly biodegradable plastic bags to the public. The move was part of the activities organized by the civic body on the occasion of the 13^th National Environment Day. The Environment Day was observed this year with the slogan, "UAE Free of Plastic Bags."
 
The activities of the day were inaugurated by Hamdan Al Shaer, Director of Environment Department in the Municipality in the presence of Sara Al Sayegh, Head of Environment and Health Education Section.
 
The Municipality activities also included an exhibition of environmental paintings and caricatures at the entrance area of the Municipality main building from 10am to 1pm on Thursday. The exhibition included 25 caricatures of artist Hamid Ata about plastic and topics related to environment. The biodegradable plastic bags were distributed with the cooperation of Eco Polymer Company.
 
The activities of Dubai Municipality on the occasion of the National Environment Day will continue further as the National Environment Day exhibition will be held from 5-9pm from 12 to 27 February at the Global Village. It will also include awareness campaign on the hazards of plastic bags, environmental lectures and workshops, documentary film shows, free painting for children, distribution of awareness materials, educational competitions and entertainment activities for public.
 
The educational programmes for schools and public that will continue throughout the month include environmental lectures and workshops, organizing students' visits to factories where biodegradable plastic are manufactured, competitions and information on school radio on the occasion and distribution of awareness materials.
